We're pleased to share that Solution Talk has opened its 2027 recruitment and training programme for Volunteer Mediators.
If you know anyone who is passionate about helping create safer, more cohesive communities across Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire or Cheshire, this opportunity may be ideal for them.
Volunteer Mediators play a key role in supporting neighbours who are experiencing conflict. They typically carry out the initial pre-mediation phone calls on their own, speaking individually with each resident to understand what's been happening and explore whether mediation feels appropriate. If the parties wish to progress to a joint or shuttle mediation session, volunteers are then supported by a co-mediator for that stage of the process.

At every step, volunteers are guided by an experienced mediator who helps them prepare, reflect on their practice and answer any questions. This ensures they feel confident, supported and ready to facilitate constructive conversations that help neighbours communicate more effectively, explore their options and identify positive solutions.
Volunteer Commitment (minimum one-year)
- 15 hours of mediation work
- 10 hours of continuous professional development
- 4 hours of supervision

What we offer in return
- Free training – 40-hour Foundation Course in Mediation Skills, plus ongoing CPD throughout the year

Training Dates – 2027 Foundation Course
Delivered over 8 half days on Zoom and 1 full in-person assessment day:
- 25 & 26 February 2027 – 9.30am to 12.30pm – Zoom
- 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19 March 2027 – 9.30am to 12.30pm – Zoom
- 25 March 2027 – 9.30am to 4pm – location to be confirmed (Warrington or Manchester)
