Company Description

The UoB Accounting & Finance Society at the University of Birmingham provides a shared space for students across all year groups to connect, build networks, and engage in social events. The society focuses on fostering a supportive community where members can develop academically, professionally, and personally. A key feature is its intra-course mentorship scheme, through which students are paired with more experienced peers to help them maximize their academic performance and career readiness. The society also aims to ensure members make the most of their university experience through guidance, events, and tailored support. For any queries, interested individuals can contact the society at anf@guild.bham.ac.uk.

Role Description

The Volunteer Mentor role is a full-time hybrid position based in Birmingham, with flexibility for some tasks to be completed from home. In this role, mentors provide one-to-one guidance to mentees on academic planning, exam preparation, and navigating the Accounting & Finance curriculum. Mentors support students with career exploration, including insight into internships, placement opportunities, and application strategies. Responsibilities include holding regular check-ins with mentees, responding to questions via online platforms, and signposting university resources and society events. Mentors collaborate with other society volunteers to share best practices, contribute to group mentoring sessions or workshops, and maintain professional, inclusive communication with all students.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
