Status: Volunteer (Part-time / Weekend)
Location: Various match venues (Greater Manchester / North West area)
Reporting to: First Team Manager / Head Coach
Role Objective
Baguley Athletic is seeking a dedicated and observant Volunteer Opposition Scout to support the First Team coaching staff. The successful candidate will attend matches of our upcoming opponents to provide detailed tactical analysis, helping to shape our matchday strategy and training focus.
This role is ideal for aspiring coaches, performance analysts, or passionate football tacticians looking to build their CVs and gain hands-on experience within a competitive grassroots football environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Match Attendance: Travel to and attend assigned fixtures of Baguley Athletic's upcoming opponents (typically Saturday afternoons or midweek evenings).
- Tactical Analysis: Observe and document the opponent’s playing style, formations (in and out of possession), and tactical adjustments.
- Player Assessment: Identify key players, highlighting their specific strengths, weaknesses, and preferred tendencies (e.g., preferred foot, pace, aerial ability).
- Set-Piece Profiling: Record offensive and defensive set-piece routines (corners, free kicks, long throws, and penalty takers).
- Report Generation: Compile your findings into a clear, structured scouting report and submit it to the coaching staff within 24–48 hours of the match.
- Communication: Occasionally brief the First Team Manager or coaching staff directly on key tactical takeaways.
- Professionalism: Represent Baguley Athletic respectfully at away grounds and maintain strict confidentiality regarding all scouting data and internal club strategies.

Desired Skills & Experience
- A strong understanding of football tactics, systems of play, and player roles.
- Excellent observational and analytical skills with an eye for detail.
- Reliable, punctual, and capable of working independently without supervision.
- Basic IT skills to format and submit reports (Word, PDF, or dedicated scouting software/templates).
- Reliable access to transport to travel to various local away grounds.
- Previous experience in coaching, playing, or scouting is advantageous but not strictly required.
