We are looking for someone with strong QA automation or software-engineering experience who can design useful tests and apply judgement about where automation adds the most value.

The strongest candidates are likely to have

• Professional QA automation, SDET or software-engineering experience.
• Strong Playwright experience, or deep experience with a comparable modern browser automation framework.
• The ability to write maintainable test code rather than relying on record-and-playback tools.
• A good understanding of web applications, APIs, asynchronous behaviour and integration failure modes.
• Experience reproducing defects clearly and communicating findings to developers.
• Confidence working with Git/GitHub.
• An evidence-driven mindset testing what the product actually does rather than only what the requirement says it should do.
• The ability to distinguish genuine defects from flaky tests or environment issues.

Useful Additional Experience Includes

• TypeScript.
• Python or API testing.
• CI/CD.
• Unit or integration testing.
• Test data and fixture management.
• Performance or security-testing awareness.
• Experience stabilising flaky test suites.

You do not need experience in every area. We are primarily interested in someone who can improve the quality and usefulness of our testing without requiring extensive day-to-day supervision.

This role may particularly suit an experienced QA engineer between roles, a contractor with spare capacity, someone on a career break or sabbatical, or someone who wants to use professional technical skills on a meaningful pro-bono project.

What will you be doing?

Time to Give Network (TGN) is a UK Community Interest Company building a skills-based charitable fundraising platform. Professionals make selected time, experience and expertise available in support of a charity they choose. Another professional can request the interaction; the TimeGiver decides whether to accept; and, when an approved opportunity is secured, the donation goes to the TimeGiver’s chosen charity. The TimeGiver receives no personal payment.

Our next-generation platform is already in UAT. We are looking for an experienced volunteer QA Automation Engineer who can help strengthen testing, improve regression coverage and reduce the amount of manual checking required as the product evolves.

Depending on your experience and interests, you may

• Build and maintain Playwright end-to-end tests around critical user journeys.
• Turn UAT findings and production-risk scenarios into useful automated regression coverage.
• Review existing automated tests for quality, brittleness and meaningful assertions.
• Help define sensible testing boundaries across front end, APIs and integrations.
• Reproduce defects clearly and provide actionable evidence to developers.
• Improve test data, fixtures and repeatability.
• Support CI test execution and help identify flaky tests or environment-related failures.
• Use exploratory testing alongside automation to identify edge cases, confusing user journeys and gaps in requirements.

We are not looking for someone simply to increase test count. We want somebody who can apply judgement about what should be tested, identify weak or brittle coverage and help us build confidence that important user journeys continue to work as expected.

This is an existing product with a real codebase and real UAT activity, rather than a training exercise or prototype.
