Role Overview

The Volunteer Social Media & Multimedia Content Officer supports the organisation's digital communications by creating engaging content for social media and online platforms. Working closely with the Communications Manager and programme teams, the volunteer will help share stories, updates and campaign content that highlight the impact of Children Not Numbers' work supporting children in Gaza.

This role provides an opportunity to gain experience in social media management, content creation and digital storytelling within a humanitarian organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Social media management

  • Support the day-to-day management of the organisation's social media channels.
  • Assist with planning, scheduling and publishing content across social media platforms.
  • Monitor engagement and flag enquiries or comments requiring a response.
  • Contribute ideas to improve audience engagement and reach.

Content creation

  • Create written, visual and multimedia content for social media.
  • Design graphics, carousels and simple video content using Canva or similar tools.
  • Repurpose programme updates and organisational news into engaging content.
  • Assist with drafting internal and external newsletters.
  • Support the preparation of communication materials in line with organisational branding.

Video and visual production

  • Edit short-form videos for social media platforms.
  • Create graphics, quote cards and campaign assets.
  • Support the development of presentations, reports and infographics where required.
  • Work with existing multimedia content provided by colleagues and volunteers.

Story gathering and digital storytelling

  • Support programme teams by helping to identify stories suitable for digital communications.
  • Assist in gathering content from colleagues, partners and country teams.
  • Ensure content complies with safeguarding, consent and ethical storytelling requirements.

Website and Digital Platforms

  • Support updates to website content under the direction of the Communications Manager.
  • Assist in creating and publishing website content where required.

Campaign support

  • Create content to support fundraising, advocacy and awareness campaigns.
  • Assist with social media activity during campaigns and key organisational events.

Monitoring and reporting

  • Assist with social media analytics and reporting.
  • Help identify content trends and opportunities for audience engagement.

General

Responsibilities and areas of focus will be agreed with the line manager and may evolve according to organisational priorities and the volunteer's availability. Workload will be reviewed regularly to ensure expectations remain realistic and manageable.

Essential Skills

  • Strong written communication and storytelling skills.
  • Experience creating content for social media platforms.
  • Ability to design graphics and digital content using Canva or similar tools.
  • Basic video editing skills.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Interest in humanitarian, advocacy, or charitable work.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Children Not Numbers.

Desirable

  • Previous volunteering or work experience in communications, marketing or social media.
  • Experience in humanitarian, international development or non-profit communications, specifically the Gaza cause.
  • Experience using WordPress or other website content management systems.
  • Knowledge of social media analytics.
  • Photography or videography experience.
  • Arabic language skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and ethical storytelling principles

Commitment

This is a volunteer position with an anticipated commitment of up to 15 hours per week. There may be an opportunity to transition into a paid position after 12 weeks, subject to funding availability and organisational requirements.
