Help shape the future of a small rare cancer charity.

We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on volunteer to work with our Chair and trustees, share your leadership experience and help us grow our impact.

What difference will you make?

ThymicUK is a registered charity established by patients with thymic cancers, their carers, and families and friends. As a small, entirely volunteer-led charity that supports patients and loved ones affected by rare thymic cancers, we rely on committed volunteers to help us maintain and grow our impact.

Why volunteer with us?

Rare cancers receive less attention, research and support than more common cancers. As a small charity, we have the opportunity to be innovative and close to the people we serve, but we need the right expertise around us to realise that potential.

You’ll be helping shape our strategy, sustainability and effectiveness where your experience can translate directly into better outcomes for people affected by a rare cancer.

The Experience You Could Bring

We’re looking for someone who can bring experience, energy and a willingness to get stuck in. You don’t need to have done all of these things, but experience in some of the areas below could make a real difference to our charity.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

  • Fundraising and income generation
    • You might have experience securing funding from trusts and foundations, corporate foundations or sponsors, and be comfortable taking fundraising from initial research and relationship-building through to applications, reporting and renewals. For a small charity, practical fundraising experience can make a huge difference.
  • Leadership and organisational development
    • Perhaps you’ve led or helped grow a small organisation, or have senior management experience across areas such as strategy, finance, HR and governance. We’d particularly value someone who understands the opportunities and realities of making a small charity more sustainable, focused and resilient.
  • Strategy and impact
    • We’re interested in people who can help us think clearly about where we can make the greatest difference. You might have experience developing organisational strategy, clarifying priorities, or helping a team make better use of evidence and learning.
  • Data and evidence
    • You may have a background in data, research, evaluation or evidence-based decision-making, and understand how good data can help a charity learn, improve and demonstrate its impact.
  • Campaigning and policy
    • Perhaps you’ve worked on campaigns, influenced policy or brought about change. Experience of working with decision-makers, government or other influential stakeholders would be valuable.
  • Communications and influencing
    • You might have experience writing for different audiences, creating digital or social media content. Most importantly, you’ll be someone who can help us engage and connect with people.

What could you help us achieve?

  • Sharpen our strategy and focus our limited resources where they can make the greatest difference;
  • Strengthen our fundraising approach and develop a sustainable pipeline of income;
  • Improve how we measure and communicate our impact;
  • Identify opportunities to grow our reach, influence and campaigning;
  • Strengthen our operations and organisational development as we grow; and
  • Provide encouragement and a trusted sounding board to our Chair.

You’ll bring your own experience and perspective, but you won’t be expected to have all the answers. We’re looking for someone who enjoys working collaboratively, asking good questions.
