Ashley’s House is a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for autistic girls aged 11 to 18. The organization focuses on helping young people develop essential life skills, build meaningful social connections, and grow in confidence. Programs and activities are designed to respect each individual’s needs and strengths, encouraging self-advocacy and independence. Volunteers play a key role in creating a positive, nurturing atmosphere where participants can explore their interests and reach their full potential.
Role Description
As a Volunteer Team Member at Ashley’s House, you will support autistic girls during on-site sessions and activities at our Harrow location. This volunteer role involves helping facilitate group workshops, recreational activities, and life skills sessions, while encouraging participation and social interaction. You will assist with setting up and tidying activity spaces, providing one-to-one support where appropriate, and following guidance from staff to ensure a safe and welcoming environment. Volunteers may also help with basic administrative tasks, preparation of materials, and occasional events, always maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding standards. This is a volunteer role with a regular on-site commitment agreed in advance with the organization.

- Interest in and sensitivity to working with autistic young people, with a commitment to inclusion and respect.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening and clear, calm communication with children and adults.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team, take direction from staff, and support group activities in a structured environment.
- Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Enthusiasm for helping others, patience, and a compassionate, non-judgmental approach.
- Willingness to complete safeguarding, autism awareness, and any required training provided by Ashley’s House.
- Previous experience volunteering or working with children, young people, or in community settings is beneficial but not required.
