Role Description
The Volunteer Treasurer – Charity Trustee will oversee the financial management of The Cambridge Royal Albert Homes CIO while contributing to the strategic direction of the charity as a member of the Board of Trustees. This volunteer, hybrid role is based in Cambridge, with some work from home acceptable for preparation of reports, reviewing financial documents, and attending virtual meetings.

- Monitoring income and expenditure
- Maintaining accurate financial records
- Preparing budgets and forecasts
- Ensuring timely production of management accounts and annual financial statements
The role involves working with external accountants and auditors, supporting compliance with charity and almshouse regulations, and advising fellow trustees on financial risks and opportunities. The Treasurer will also attend trustee meetings, contribute to policy decisions, and help ensure the charity’s resources are used effectively to benefit current and future residents.
Qualifications
- Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, cash flow monitoring, and understanding of financial statements.
- Experience with bookkeeping or accounting software and comfort working with spreadsheets and digital financial tools.
- Knowledge of charity finance, governance, or regulatory requirements, or willingness to learn and apply relevant guidance.
- Ability to interpret financial information, present it clearly to non-specialists, and support sound decision-making.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate constructively with other trustees and staff.
- High level of integrity, reliability, and commitment to safeguarding the charity’s assets and acting in residents’ best interests.
- Prior trustee or board experience, or experience in housing, social care, or the voluntary sector, is beneficial but not essential.
- Capacity to attend regular meetings in Cambridge, undertake some work from home, and commit sufficient time to the role.
