Company Description
Herts Welcomes Refugees is a volunteer-led charity that supports refugees and people seeking asylum across Hertfordshire through a network of over 200 volunteers. The organisation offers practical help such as befriending, English lessons, and guidance on navigating life in the UK, including schools, paperwork, and local services. Support is provided to resettled refugees and to people seeking asylum in hotels, hostels, and dispersed accommodation, with ongoing assistance once they receive leave to remain. Volunteers run drop-in sessions, English classes, creative and social activities, and provide essential items like SIM cards, bikes, and school supplies, while signposting to housing and employment advice. The charity focuses on promoting integration, mental wellbeing, and a sense of community for people who have often experienced trauma and displacement.

Role Description
The Treasurer is a shared, remote role responsible for overseeing the financial management and sustainability of Herts Welcomes Refugees. Day-to-day tasks include:
- Maintaining accurate financial records
- Preparing monthly and annual accounts
- Monitoring cash flow
- Ensuring that all financial activities comply with relevant charity and regulatory requirements
As part of a team, the Treasurer will:
- Develop and manage budgets
- Support funding applications with clear financial information
- Provide timely reports to the Board of Trustees to inform strategic decisions
The role involves:
- Managing bank accounts and payments
- Setting up robust financial controls and procedures

The Treasurer will collaborate closely with other trustees, staff, and key volunteers to ensure resources are used effectively to support refugees and people seeking asylum.
Time commitment
3-5 hours per week
Qualifications
- Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, cash flow monitoring, and financial reporting.
- Experience with bookkeeping and preparing year-end accounts.
- Knowledge of charity finance, governance, and regulatory requirements or willingness to learn.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and solid general IT skills for remote working.
- Experience in the charity or non-profit sector is an advantage.
- Commitment to the mission of supporting refugees and people seeking asylum.
