Role Description
This is a remote volunteer Trustee role responsible for helping oversee the governance and strategic direction of ADVOCACY MATTERS LTD. Day-to-day tasks include participating in scheduled board meetings, reviewing reports and policies, and contributing to strategic planning and risk management. The Trustee will collaborate with fellow board members to ensure compliance with relevant regulations, maintain strong ethical standards, and support the organization’s mission and long-term sustainability. The role also involves offering guidance to the leadership team, monitoring financial performance at a high level, and acting as an ambassador for the organization within the wider community.

- Ability to contribute to governance, strategy, and risk oversight, with sound judgment and integrity.
- Experience or strong interest in civic, social, or community-focused work, particularly around advocacy and social justice.
- Strong communication, listening, and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage constructively in remote meetings.
- Basic understanding of financial oversight, budgeting, or nonprofit management (or willingness to learn).
- Comfort using digital tools for remote work (e.g., video conferencing, shared documents, email).
- Commitment to equality, inclusion, and safeguarding, with a willingness to uphold the organization’s values and policies.
- Previous board or committee experience is helpful but not required; lived experience of using advocacy or support services is also valued.
