ABOUT US:
With a mission to enrich the cultural life of our region, Birmingham Hippodrome is one of the most popular theatre complexes in the UK. Varied productions in our 1,850-seat auditorium (dating from 1899), and in our 200-seat Patrick Studio ensure we play a key role in the regionโs world-class cultural scene. With c.400 live performances annually in our main house, we present nothing but the best in touring musical theatre, ballet, dance, opera, pantomime, drama, and comedy. Our Patrick Studio welcomes a range of smaller-scale productions and is an important base for dance and for the development of new artistic work.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
๐ As a volunteer, you will be a valued member of the Visitor Experience team, enhancing the customer journey and creating a welcome and safe space for everyone. You will be fully trained including in how to ensure the safety of our visitors.
- Welcome: You will be the face of our theatre, welcoming visitors, guiding them, and ensuring every experience is an amazing one. You will welcome visitors into the auditorium, guiding them to their seats and facilities throughout the performance.
- Auditorium: Before opening the auditorium, you will confirm all areas are clean, clear, and ready to welcome our audiences. You will check your fire exit routes and equipment, and be ready to support evacuation procedures if needed (you will receive full safety training).
- Access: Alongside our Access Champions, you will deliver welcoming and inclusive experiences to our visitors, including providing audio headsets, fidget toys and more.
- Values: You will act as an ambassador for Birmingham Hippodrome, committing to our values of equality, diversity, inclusion, and belonging, supporting each other at all times.
- Expenses: We will reimburse you up to ยฃ15 per shift for return travel to Birmingham Hippodrome, and give you a free hot drink and slice of cake during every shift.

- We like to see our volunteers every week if possible; however, we are aware you may have other commitments and therefore we like to set the expectation of you attending 10 shifts per quarter.
- You need to be a great communicator with a polite and friendly nature.
- You need to be able to adapt to a fast-paced environment, where things can change quickly, but the show must go on!
- You're great at working as part of a friendly, theatre-loving team.
- Within the first month, you will need to undertake a minimum of four training shifts and you will be fully trained in safety procedures via the Learning Library.
