The Role
This is an exciting fixed term opportunity for an experienced volunteering professional and/or project coordinator to lead the implementation of high-profile initiatives, building experience in project management, volunteer engagement, operational planning, and programme development within a world-leading museum.
The Volunteering Project Lead will lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of innovative volunteering projects at V&A South Kensington between October 2026 and January 2027.
They will be responsible for developing, trialling, and evaluating new volunteering initiatives focused on enhancing visitor experience. The role will establish operational procedures and ensure volunteering initiatives are successfully delivered embedded within agreed timelines.
The role will lead on the recruitment, onboarding, and training of volunteers, as well as developing operational frameworks and resources to support the effective delivery of volunteer-led activities.
Who are we looking for?
- Experience recruiting, onboarding, training, and supporting volunteers to deliver a public-facing programme.
- Demonstrable knowledge of volunteer management best practice and confidence engaging new and existing volunteers with initiatives and/or programmes.
- Experience coordinating projects, programmes, or initiatives, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, timelines, and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Proven ability to build positive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and collaborate effectively across teams to deliver shared objectives.
- Confident and effective communicator, comfortable engaging with volunteers, colleagues, and stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan, prioritise, and deliver work independently, while remaining responsive to changing needs and feedback.
- Experience in programme development including, but not limited to, developing guidance, training materials, processes, and operational procedures to support the successful delivery of volunteer-led activities or services.
- Ability to gather, interpret, and present feedback and data, using insights to improve processes, user experiences, and project outcomes.
- Understanding of the importance of delivering inclusive, accessible, and welcoming experiences, with sensitivity to the needs of diverse audiences and volunteer groups.
- A proactive and solution-focused approach, with the confidence to identify challenges and implement practical improvements.
- Shares the V&A’s values of Creativity, Collaboration, Equity, Sustainability, and Generosity, and is committed to fostering a positive and inclusive volunteer culture.
