What you'll do

During your Ignition programme, you will provide support to subject matter experts within the team as they make key strategic decisions that will shape the future of Volvo Car UK. You’ll contribute significantly to the success and future of the brand by delivering fresh ideas and viewpoints and challenging current assumptions to meet the needs of future customers – so an innovative mindset is essential.

We are currently recruiting for an organised, ambitious and driven 12-month Legal Assistant within our fast-paced Legal Team, to join us from Summer 2026.

Reporting to our Legal Director, this role offers practical, real‑world experience within an in‑house legal team, exposure to a wide range of commercial legal matters, the development of professional workplace skills, insight into how law supports business operations and strategy, and mentoring from experienced legal professionals.

You will gain valuable skills and experience in key aspects of the legal department including;

  • Supporting the review, drafting and organisation of commercial contracts (such as supplier, customer, confidentiality and service agreements)
  • Conducting legal research on a variety of issues, including contract, commercial and competition law, data protection, regulatory matters, litigation and corporate governance
  • Assisting with contract management processes, including maintaining records and tracking key contractual obligations
  • Supporting compliance activities, policies and internal procedures, including the Code of Conduct
  • Helping prepare internal guidance notes and training materials for the business
  • Assisting with company secretarial and governance activities, where appropriate
  • Liaising with internal stakeholders to gather information and support legal queries
  • Providing general administrative and organisational support to the legal team

Do you fit the profile?

You will have a real interest in legal advice and this is managed in a commercial setting along with the curiosity to understand Operational challenges and deliver innovative solutions. To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Experience as a Legal Assistant, Paralegal, or equivalent.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good organisational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Interest in commercial and in‑house legal work
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Professional, reliable and discreet when handling confidential information
  • The ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a small team
  • Comfortable engaging with a range of stakeholders across the business

A nice to have, you would have previous legal or office experience, an understanding of basic contract principles and an interest in a career in business or inhouse law.
