OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT/SECTION
The Aviation Research team in the Global Aviation Finance Office (GAFO) at MUFG focuses on the delivery of market expertise to support the business. They inform the Global Aviation Finance Office with relevant asset and sector analyses, and thought leadership for deal and execution support, and promotion of the franchise’s brand.
Aviation Research is a global function which supports the EMEA, APAC and US teams, and by extension contributes to global client discussions to support the GAFO business.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a genuine passion for all things aviation with a desire to work with one of the largest aviation lenders in order to help shape and grow our business for the future pro-actively seeking out, exploring and researching existing and new avenues of aviation related products.
The Aviation Research team tracks factors influencing asset liquidity and value dynamics. Responsibilities include supporting transaction activity through research and analysis, supplying timely market insights to internal stakeholders, and contributing to the corporate external profile through research outputs and client-facing interactions that promote the acumen of MUFG Global Aviation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Support and develop Aviation Research activities including:
- Responsibility to pro-actively seek out, explore and research existing and new avenues of aviation related opportunities for our business
- Responsibility to perform tasks, including the collection, analysis and distribution of a broad range of data pertaining to the commercial aviation industry and trends;
- The commercial aviation assets (aircraft/engines, etc.),
- the markets in which they trade (airlines, investors/lessors, manufacturers and aftermarket players, etc.),
- and their values (market, base, soft and part-out, etc.).
- Responsibility to provide internal stakeholders with expert opinion to assist decision making for debt provision involving commercial aviation assets;
- Responsibility to contribute to externally communicate MUFG’s expertise in the commercial aviation industry.
- Responsibility to Research new aviation related business opportunities for future MUFG involvement in order to grow the MUFG lending platform appetite.

This senior position is expected to analyse dynamics that drive commercial aviation assets’ liquidity and values, and be able to represent the Bank with clients, deliver conference presentations and produce industry reports and further evolve our AR function within the Bank.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- Significant relevant industry experience (in aviation finance, appraisal, airline, lessor, consultancy)
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Functional / Technical Competencies:
Essential
- Extensive knowledge and demonstration of understanding the value of aircraft and/or related parts, and appraisal methodologies
- Demonstrated experience outside of the normal commercial aviation platform in order to help evolve our business
- Knowledge of the current aircraft and engines programmes
- Understanding of aircraft lifecycle economics
- Strong analytical and numeracy skills
- Fluency in the English language – spoken and written
- Fluency with the Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience with online aviation intelligence platforms
- Presentation, interpersonal and networking skills
- Problem-solving and market research skills
- Ability to manage and prioritise workload
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to synthesise complex data into clear strategic insights
- Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen
- High degree of analytical rigor and intellectual curiosity
- Strong network across airlines, OEMs, lessors, appraisers, and industry bodies
- Ability to leverage internal and external network to gather intelligence

Education / Qualifications:
Essential
- Degree level educated or equivalent industry experience preference for aviation or finance qualifications
Preferred:
- ISTAT Certified Appraiser
