Role Overview
GXO is seeking a Vice President of Communications for the UK & Ireland to lead communications strategy and execution across its largest market. Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, this role is responsible for protecting and enhancing the company’s reputation in the UK & Ireland, through integrated external, corporate, executive and employee communications.
As a senior member of the global Communications leadership team and the UK & I Executive team, the VP will serve as a trusted advisor to the President of the UK & I, the UK & I leadership team and partner closely with global stakeholders to align communications strategies with business priorities.
The role requires an experienced communications executive with strong leadership capability, exceptional media judgment, and deep experience operating in a highly visible and fast-moving environment. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in B2B, brand strategy, executive positioning, media relations and issues management, with a proven ability to deliver measurable impact.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications Leadership
- Develop and lead the integrated communications strategy for the UK & I aligned with company and business objectives.
- Provide strategic communications counsel to UK leadership and global C-suite leaders.
- Shape proactive reputation-building initiatives that support growth, trust, and stakeholder engagement.
- Elevate GXO’s profile in top-tier business and trade media through proactive media relations and compelling storytelling.
- Lead issues and crisis management, ensuring timely, accurate, and strategic response.
- Drive executive positioning and thought leadership initiatives to showcase GXO’s innovation and expertise.

Media Relations, Brand and Reputation Management
- Establish and maintain senior-level relationships with influential journalists, editors, producers, commentators, and industry influencers across business, financial, trade, logistics, and mainstream media.
- Drive a robust earned media strategy that increases share of voice, positive sentiment, message penetration, and executive visibility.
- Develop annual media engagement plans aligned to business objectives and growth priorities.
- Lead media training and spokesperson preparation for senior executives.
- Oversee all external media interactions, interview strategies, press conferences, and media events.
- Manage agency relationships and optimize external communications investments to maximize impact and ROI.
- Utilize media analytics and reputation measurement tools to evaluate campaign effectiveness and influence future strategies.
Internal Communications
- Foster employee engagement through clear, consistent, and inspiring internal communications.
- Partner with HR and business leaders to support cultural evolution and change management initiatives.
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of 4 direct reports; promote collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.
- Build organizational capacity through coaching, mentoring, and talent development.
Public Relations, External Affairs & Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop and execute a comprehensive public relations strategy that enhances GXO's visibility, credibility, and reputation across the UK & Ireland.
- Position GXO as the leading voice in logistics innovation, supply chain transformation, automation, and workforce development.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with global, national, trade, and industry media, ensuring consistent, positive representation of the company.
- Develop integrated campaigns that generate earned media coverage and strengthen corporate reputation among customers, investors, policymakers, employees, and industry stakeholders.
- Lead proactive media outreach surrounding major customer wins, operational milestones, partnerships, innovation initiatives, sustainability achievements, and community engagement activities.
- Serve as the communications lead for industry conferences, speaking engagements, awards programs, and external thought leadership opportunities.
- Develop stakeholder engagement strategies involving trade associations, policymakers, and local communities.
- Identify emerging reputational opportunities and risks through active monitoring of the political, economic, social, and media landscape.
- Build strategic partnerships with key industry organizations, business groups, and professional associations to enhance corporate visibility and influence.

What You’ll Need to Succeed in this role at GXO
- 15-20 years of experience in communications, with significant leadership experience in a global organization.
- Proven track record in:
- Media relations with top-tier business and industry outlets.
- Executive positioning and thought leadership.
- Brand positioning.
- Issues and crisis management.
- Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills; ability to build trust with senior executives and diverse stakeholders.
- The role will require travel to operational sites in the UK, as needed; to GXO offices in the UK, as well as to London periodically for London-based media opportunities and events. The role may also need to travel to global Functional offsites etc.
