Overview
Job Summary (Primary function)
The Vice President, International Medical Affairs, is the senior Medical Affairs leader accountable for the performance, quality, readiness and impact of Incyte’s medical organization across International markets.
Reporting into the Medical Affairs organization, this leader owns the effectiveness of the country medical organizations, with Country Medical Directors reporting directly into the role, and is accountable for ensuring that each market has the strategy, capabilities, resources and leadership required to deliver against local business and patient needs.
The VP serves as a senior medical partner to International Commercial leadership and works closely with R&D, Global Medical Affairs and other enterprise functions to ensure that insights from individual markets shape development, evidence-generation, launch and lifecycle strategies.
Essential Functions of the Job (Key responsibilities)
- Own International Medical Affairs performance. Set the strategic direction, priorities and operating expectations for Medical Affairs across International markets and hold accountability for execution and impact at the country level.
- Lead Country Medical Directors. Directly lead and develop Country Medical Directors, ensuring strong local leadership, clear accountability and consistent standards of medical excellence across markets.
- Drive country-level success. Ensure each country has a high-quality medical strategy grounded in local clinical practice, stakeholder needs, treatment pathways and market dynamics. Regularly assess country performance, identify gaps and intervene when priorities, capabilities or execution need to change.
- Translate strategy into local impact. Ensure global and International strategies are translated into locally relevant medical plans with clear objectives, measures of success and accountability for delivery.
- Bring the markets into global decision-making. Ensure that countries fully understand and can represent perspectives in Global Medical, Development and portfolio forums, ensuring local evidence gaps, treatment realities and external insights influence enterprise decisions.
- Partner with International Commercial. Serve as a senior medical counterpart to International Commercial leadership, contributing medical and scientific perspective to integrated asset, launch and lifecycle strategies while maintaining appropriate Medical Affairs governance and independence.
- Lead launch and lifecycle readiness. Ensure country medical organizations are ready for launches and major lifecycle events, with the right evidence, scientific narrative, external engagement strategy, capabilities and resources in place.
- Shape evidence generation. Identify priority evidence gaps within International markets and inform evidence generation priorities for International.
- Build external scientific leadership. Ensure strong engagement with leading investigators, healthcare professionals, scientific societies and other external stakeholders, and that resulting insights are translated into action.
- Build a high-performing organization. Develop talent, succession and capabilities across the International Medical Affairs organization and foster a culture of scientific excellence, accountability, collaboration and enterprise thinking.
- Ensure governance and stewardship. Provide appropriate oversight of medical resources, investments and activities, including drug safety and pharmacovigilance, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations, industry standards and Incyte policies.

Qualifications (Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience, and competency)
- MD or equivalent medical degree strongly preferred; PharmD, PhD or other advanced scientific degree with significant relevant leadership experience may be considered.
- Significant senior leadership experience in Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, including country level leadership across multiple European and/or International markets. Experience within a Global team is desirable.
- Demonstrated success leading Country Medical Directors and geographically dispersed medical organizations.
- Strong experience influencing clinical development, evidence generation, launches and lifecycle strategy.
- Deep understanding of European and International healthcare environments and the differing scientific, regulatory, access and clinical-practice considerations across markets.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively at the intersection of Medical Affairs, R&D and Commercial while maintaining the appropriate scientific independence and governance of Medical Affairs.
- Strong executive presence and ability to influence senior leaders across functions, geographies and cultures.
- Track record of attracting, developing and leading high-performing teams in a matrixed global organization. Ability to build relationships and create authentic alignment to achieve defined objectives.
- Experience in Oncology, Hematology and/or Inflammation & Autoimmunity highly desirable. Demonstrated learning agility across different therapy areas.
- Fluency in English and willingness to travel internationally.
