POSITION SUMMARY

The Vice President, International Strategic Partnerships is a revenue catalyst responsible for accelerating BMI’s international growth agenda through the origination, structuring, and execution of high-impact strategic partnerships. Reporting to the Senior Vice President & Managing Director, International, this leader will expand and deepen relationships at the CMO, platform, and publisher levels—leveraging a substantial existing network across the international music ecosystem—to unlock new licensing, mandate, and service opportunities in unlicensed and under-licensed territories. The role will play a leadership part in the success of BMI’s partnership in the UAE, driving stakeholder alignment, commercial momentum, and delivery against shared objectives. In addition to relationship development, the VP will build rigorous, data-driven business cases (including market sizing, investment requirements, timelines, and ROI) and present clear recommendations to senior leadership. The role partners closely with cross-functional teams (including Technology, Legal/Business Affairs, Finance, Licensing, Distribution and Operations) to translate strategy into execution, ensure operational readiness, and deliver measurable revenue and partner outcomes.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions: which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.

  • Partners with the SVP & MD, International to set and execute a pipeline of strategic initiatives that expands BMI’s international revenue base, with emphasis on unlicensed and under-licensed territories as well as priority partner segments (CMOs, digital platforms, publishers).
  • Leads market sizing and opportunity assessment (TAM/SAM), synthesizing repertoire, usage, and competitive intelligence to quantify revenue upside and define market-entry pathways.
  • Builds and socializes investment-grade business cases (assumptions, economics, costs, risks, timelines, and success metrics), and delivers executive-ready recommendations and presentations to senior leadership to enable decision-making.
  • Originates, structures, negotiates, and manages strategic partnerships with CMOs, digital platforms, publishers, and rights owners to enable efficient, scalable licensing and administration solutions across target markets and categories.
  • Secures mandates and commercial commitments from foreign partners and rights owners, leveraging senior relationships and a consultative, value-led approach to convert opportunities into executed agreements.
  • Develops partner-facing value propositions and proposals that commercialize BMI’s expertise, processes, and technology capabilities (including outsourced services and/or platform tools), aligning go-to-market plans with partner needs and BMI strategic priorities.
  • Partners cross-functionally (Technology, Legal/Business Affairs, Finance, Operations) to translate partner and market needs into clear business requirements, implementation roadmaps, and operational models—driving on-time delivery and measurable outcomes.
  • Provides leadership support for BMI’s UAE partnership, aligning internal and external stakeholders, driving commercial and operational workstreams, and ensuring delivery against partnership milestones and growth targets.
  • Prepares and disseminates clear, executive-level communications (memos, decks, partner updates, and decision documents) for senior internal stakeholders and third parties.
  • Models BMI Values while cultivating an inclusive, collaborative, high-performance culture internally and with external partners.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, directing and ensuring reliability of work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience driving international commercial growth within a performing rights organization or adjacent music industry sectors (e.g., music publishing, recorded music, digital platforms, rights administration, or media/entertainment). Demonstrated success originating, negotiating, and scaling strategic partnerships with senior decision-makers (CMO-, platform-, and/or publisher-level), and converting relationships into executed agreements and measurable revenue outcomes. Strong preference for experience building investment-grade business cases (market sizing, unit economics/ROI, risks, and implementation roadmaps) and partnering cross-functionally with Legal/Business Affairs, Finance, Technology, and Operations to operationalize agreements. International operating experience and an established network across the global music ecosystem strongly preferred.

Skills and Abilities: which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.

  • Deep understanding of music copyright and the commercial mechanics of licensing and rights administration, with the ability to translate complex concepts for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Foreign language proficiency (written and/or spoken) is a plus (global meetings are generally conducted in English and/or with translators).
  • Strategic partnership origination and enterprise relationship management experience across CMOs, DSPs/platforms, publishers, and rights holders.
  • Substantial existing contacts in the international music ecosystem (CMOs, publishers, platforms, labels, and related stakeholders); experience building partnerships across regions and cultures, ideally including MENA/UAE.
  • Demonstrated ability to structure and negotiate complex commercial agreements; skilled in reviewing and synthesizing key contract provisions in partnership with Legal/Business Affairs.
  • Exceptional analytical and financial acumen, including market sizing, scenario modeling, and ROI-based business case development to support investment and partnership decisions.
  • Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives from strategy through execution—establishing workplans, governance, and performance metrics to deliver outcomes on time.
  • Strategic, structured thinker with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize effectively across a dynamic partnership and deal pipeline.
  • Demonstrated people leadership capability, working effectively in matrixed, global environments.
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills; able to represent BMI with credibility and diplomacy across cultures and at all levels of internal leadership and external partners.
  • Cultural agility and comfort operating internationally, including leading negotiations and managing partnerships across differing business norms and regulatory environments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain constructive, informative relationships with partners and vendors, including setting governance, escalation paths, and performance expectations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint in particular) to build financial models, dashboards, and executive-ready presentations.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft concise decision documents and influence outcomes with senior stakeholders.
  • Highly self-directed and outcomes-oriented; thrives in ambiguity, manages multiple concurrent workstreams, and maintains strong operational discipline, follow-through, and accountability.
