VP of Engineering – Platform & Architecture

Location: London
Sector: FinTech / Financial Services Technology
Level: VP / Engineering Leadership

The Opportunity

We are working with a highly successful financial technology business that builds mission-critical software used by some of the world’s largest financial institutions.

Following significant growth and continued investment in its technology platform, the business is looking for an experienced VP of Engineering to help drive its technical vision and lead the next stage of its engineering evolution.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership position with responsibility for a global engineering function. You’ll work closely with senior Technology and Product leadership, combining people leadership, architecture and technical strategy with responsibility for delivering robust, scalable, enterprise-grade software.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead a global, full-stack engineering team of approximately 20–25 Software Engineers
  • Own software development across planning, architecture, implementation, QA and operations
  • Define and execute engineering strategy as the platform and organisation continue to scale
  • Build, mentor and develop a high-performing engineering team, creating clear standards around quality and engineering excellence
  • Evolve existing business-critical platforms while delivering against an ambitious product roadmap
  • Drive the development of robust, reliable and scalable SaaS solutions
  • Partner closely with Product and other senior stakeholders to translate business objectives into technology initiatives
  • Champion modern UI/UX engineering and improve the usability of complex enterprise applications
  • Continue to mature Agile engineering practices and development processes
  • Provide architectural leadership while remaining close enough to the technology to challenge and guide engineering decisions

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Person

We’re looking for someone who combines technical credibility with strong people leadership.

You’ll be comfortable operating strategically at VP level, but you won’t be disconnected from the engineering itself. You should be able to engage deeply on architecture and technical decisions, while also coaching senior engineers, developing future leaders and creating an environment where high-performing teams can do their best work.

Experience within FinTech, financial markets, regulatory technology or another complex/regulated environment would be particularly valuable.
