The post holder will work as an integral part of the critical care team.
About the Role
The Ward Clerk is an integral member of the Critical Care team, providing administrative and clerical support that contributes to the effective day-to-day running of the unit and supports the patient journey.
The post holder will frequently be a first point of contact for patients' relatives and visitors and must therefore demonstrate professionalism, compassion, and sensitivity, recognising that families attending Critical Care may be experiencing significant anxiety, distress, or bereavement.
Responsibilities
The Critical Care Inpatient Ward Clerk role consists of three principal components:
i. Direct and comprehensive Critical Care administration
Accurate inputting, updating, and maintenance of electronic patient information using the EPIC and other relevant Critical Care or Trust systems. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
