Ward Manager/Resuscitation Lead
30 Hours/ Woodland Hospital
The role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse to join our senior clinical leadership team as Ward Manager & Resuscitation Lead.
This unique dual role combines operational leadership of our inpatient ward with strategic oversight of resuscitation services across the hospital. We are looking for an inspirational leader who is passionate about delivering outstanding patient care, developing high-performing teams, and driving excellence in emergency preparedness and patient safety.
As Ward Manager, you will be responsible for the effective day-to-day management of the inpatient ward, ensuring safe staffing, high-quality patient care, excellent patient experience and regulatory compliance.
As Resuscitation Lead, you will provide professional leadership for the hospital's resuscitation programme, leading training, governance, audit and service development activities to ensure compliance with Resuscitation Council UK standards and organisational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Ward Management
- Provide visible clinical leadership to the ward team.
- Maintain high standards of patient-centred care and patient safety.
- Lead, motivate and develop nursing staff through effective leadership, supervision and appraisal.
- Ensure safe staffing levels and effective workforce planning.
- Monitor and improve clinical quality, patient outcomes and patient experience.
- Manage resources and departmental budgets effectively.
- Lead investigations and learning following incidents, complaints and patient feedback.
- Support regulatory compliance and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Resuscitation Leadership
- Lead and coordinate the hospital resuscitation service.
- Develop and deliver Immediate Life Support (ILS) training programmes.
- Support clinical teams in maintaining resuscitation competencies.
- Organise and monitor mandatory resuscitation training compliance.
- Lead resuscitation audits, mock emergency exercises and quality improvement projects.
- Review emergency events and identify learning opportunities.
- Provide expert advice regarding deteriorating patients, emergency response systems and resuscitation equipment.
- Maintain emergency preparedness across all clinical departments.
- Develop and review policies, procedures and emergency response pathways.
- Report key performance indicators and assurance information through clinical governance structures.

Essential
- Registered Nurse (NMC Registered).
- Significant post-registration experience in acute healthcare.
- Previous management experience at Senior Sister, Charge Nurse, Deputy Ward Manager or Ward Manager level.
- Current Advanced Life Support (ALS) Provider qualification.
- Experience delivering clinical education and staff training.
- Demonstrable leadership and people management skills.
- Strong understanding of clinical governance, patient safety and quality improvement.
- Excellent communication, organisational and influencing skills.
Desirable
- Immediate Life Support (ILS) Instructor qualification.
- Advanced Life Support Instructor qualification.
- Teaching and assessing qualification.
- Critical Care or Acute Care qualification.
- Experience of simulation training.
- Membership of the Resuscitation Council UK.
- Experience leading service improvement and change management programmes.
Where you’ll be based
Woodland Hospital but leading Resuscitation services at Glendon Wood Hospital as well.
