Role: Ward Nurse – Part Time

Location: York

Salary: Up to £39,330 FTE, dependent on experience

Are you an experienced Registered Nurse looking for a part-time opportunity within a specialist private healthcare environment? We are currently recruiting for an experienced Ward Nurse to join a friendly, supportive and forward-thinking ophthalmology team based in York.

This is a part-time position of 19 hours per week across 2 days. Candidates must be flexible to work Monday to Thursday and be willing to occasionally cover shifts at the organisation's hospitals in Bradford and Wetherby. The Role

The successful Ward Nurse will participate in all aspects of the ophthalmic service, including surgery, and will provide excellent standards of care throughout the patient's clinical pathway. The role will involve diagnostic testing, pre-operative assessment, peri-operative and post-operative care, as well as supporting the surgical and refractive services and assisting with minor procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use clinical judgement and analytical skills to proactively identify potential issues or changes in a patient's condition that require Consultant or Surgeon input.
  • Work closely with Consultants and the wider clinical team to provide excellent patient care.
  • Provide patients and carers with clear pre-operative and post-operative information and instructions.
  • Deliver holistic, patient-centred care throughout the clinical pathway.
  • Provide clinical advice to patients within your level of competence.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely and appropriately in accordance with NMC guidelines and relevant professional standards.
  • Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Maintain patient privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure a safe and efficient patient journey.
  • Adhere to all relevant clinical, health and safety, infection prevention and organisational policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current NMC registration or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with current HCPC registration, with no restrictions.
  • Minimum of two years' post-qualification experience.
  • Experience within day surgery, operating theatre or outpatient settings.
  • A qualification in Ophthalmology or Peri-operative Care would be desirable.
  • Previous ophthalmology or outpatient experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent patient-centred approach and commitment to delivering high-quality care.
  • Ability to work flexibly across the York, Bradford and Wetherby locations when required.

Working Pattern

Part-time: 19 hours per week across 2 days.

Candidates must be flexible to work Monday to Thursday and be willing to provide occasional cover at the Bradford and Wetherby hospitals.
