Role Overview

Apprentice Process Operator / Warehouse Worker

Working independently and as part of a team, the role is: Apprentice Process Operator / Warehouse Worker. The job entails receiving information on customer material requirements and subsequently processing the material according to our quality procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Processing Material:
    • Operate a variety of cutting machinery, including band saws, guillotines, and decoilers.
    • Move material using overhead cranes and fork trucks (training provided).
    • Manually handle steel, which requires a certain level of physical exertion as it is heavy.
    • Refer to quality procedures and implement quality checks at all parts of the process.

Course Contents

  • Conduct risk assessments within the working environment.
  • Apply safe working practices in line with associated health and safety legislation and company policy.
  • Receive products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Store and pick products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Dispatch products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Decant, pack products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Communicate with others verbally, for example internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers.
  • Communicate in writing with others, for example internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers.
  • Load and unload products, considering the product that is to be moved and its current and planned destination.
  • Use tools and equipment to aid in product handling.
  • Use information technology and digital systems.
  • Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
  • Locate and use operational information, electronic or paper-based, required to fulfil contractual requirements.
  • Select, prepare, and use packaging materials that reduce waste and mitigate environmental impacts.
  • Support under instruction scheduled and unscheduled stock-taking activities relevant to the organisation and product.
  • Identify and escalate problems beyond own responsibility.
  • Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance.
  • Segregate resources for reuse, recycling, and disposal.
  • Follow equity, diversity, and inclusion rules.
  • Carry out and record learning and development activities.
  • Conduct handover activities.

Training Schedule

Working towards Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard. Training will take place at employer’s site.

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE in: English (grade 4), Maths (grade 4).
  • Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience.

Due to the nature of this role, we are unable to progress applicants who are currently under the age of 18. This is because the position involves working within a warehouse environment and operating machinery, which cannot be used by anyone under 18 years of age. However, we are happy to consider applicants who are approaching their 18th birthday and will be eligible to take on the full role responsibilities in the near future.
