Job Description: Supply Chain Warehouse Operative (Level 2) Apprenticeship

You'll gain hands-on experience supporting the movement, handling and storage of goods within a warehouse environment. You'll learn key warehouse operations, cargo handling, stock control, safety procedures and customer service skills. You'll also have the opportunity to complete forklift licence training.

Wage

  • £15,600 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age
  • National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices
  • Salary reviewed after 12 months.

Training Course

  • Supply chain warehouse operative (level 2)

Hours

  • Monday to Friday, 9.00am - 5.30pm during initial training.
  • When fully trained, hours will be Monday to Friday 12.30pm to 8.30pm
  • 37 hours 30 minutes a week

What You'll Do at Work

  • Handles cargo movement and assists in daily warehouse operations; complying with regulations and internal procedures, and updates shipment status accordingly
  • Performs loading and unloading of trucks or containers
  • Can be involved in handling special cargo movements including perishable goods, dangerous goods, IT equipment etc.
  • Processes Ocean or Air Freight (packing and/or cargo), e.g. marking, neutralisation, labelling, sorting, etc.
  • Supports Handling Team Leader to meet operational targets
  • Helps to ensure contractor adherence to quality procedures
  • Mains pro-active communication/relationship with both peers and customer’s trucker
  • Attends to daily inbound/outbound activities of the warehouse
  • Records all inbound/outbound deliveries
  • Conducts random physical (pre-)inspections of the inbound/outbound cargo
  • Mains cleanliness and orderliness of the warehouse
  • Observes and follows strictly the warehouse safety and security policy and procedures
  • Observes proper use of warehouse tools and equipment
  • Reports any incident inside the warehouse
  • Participates in the regular cycle counting activities
  • Mains good transaction files of the warehouse
  • Forklift license training
  • Ensures that all interactions are compliant with DPDHL Code of Conduct and other compliance requirements e.g. anti-corruption
  • Contribute to the First-Choice continuous improvement programme

What You'll Learn

  • Course contents include conducting risk assessments, applying safe working practices, receiving and dispatching products, communicating with others, loading and unloading products, using tools and equipment, using information technology and digital systems, complying with GDPR and cyber security, locating and using operational information, selecting and using packaging materials, conducting handover activities, and more.

Training Schedule

  • On the job training delivered by the employer.
  • Allocation of an apprenticeship delivery coach who will carry out regular training.
  • Assessment and support visits to ensure you acquire new learning, knowledge skills and behaviours in order to progress and develop.
  • Identify, track and support 6 hours off the job training activities.
  • Quarterly formal progress review meetings, identifying learning achievements and next steps.
  • More training information: Internal systems training will be provided by the employer.

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade Minimum Grade C or 4)
    • Maths (grade Minimum Grade C or 4)

Other Requirements

  • Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience.
  • Some working at height, manual work and must be keen to take forklift truck licence.
  • Due to DHL insurances - candidates must be over 18 years old for this apprenticeship.

Contract

  • The apprenticeship will initially be a 24-month Fixed Term Contract (FTC), with the aim that apprentices either move onto a further apprenticeship or a permanent role within the business - subject to a suitable vacancy being available and in line with the selection process for the role.
