Elevation Procurement & Supply Chain are delighted to be partnered with a rapidly growing ecommerce retail organisation, with the search & selection of a Warehouse General Manager for their new Bury St Edmunds site operation. Transitioning from a third party provider into a directly managed, in-house operation, you will lead the end to end operation, for national ecommerce distribution.
Step into a pivotal leadership role where you’ll shape and grow a new warehouse operation from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to open a site in Bury St Edmunds, bringing a previously outsourced 3PL operation in-house and building a high-performing team to support a fast-paced ecommerce business. You’ll have genuine ownership over warehouse strategy, performance, and continuous improvement.
About the Role:
You will lead the opening and ongoing management of a new warehouse facility, overseeing all aspects of operations to ensure efficient, accurate, and safe handling of stock. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will manage the transition from a 3PL provider to an in-house operation, designing processes that support ecommerce fulfilment and future growth. Your impact will be seen in improved service levels, stock accuracy, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end opening of a new warehouse location, including layout planning, resource allocation, and go-live readiness.
- Manage the transition from a 3PL model to an in-house warehouse operation, ensuring minimal disruption to service and clear process handovers.
- Oversee daily warehouse operations, including goods-in, storage, picking, packing, dispatch, and returns for ecommerce orders.
- Build, lead, and develop a warehouse team, setting clear performance expectations and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Implement and maintain robust inventory control processes to ensure stock accuracy and availability.
- Establish and enforce health and safety standards, ensuring full compliance with relevant legislation and company policies.
- Monitor operational KPIs, analyse performance data, and drive initiatives to improve productivity, accuracy, and service levels.
- Collaborate with ecommerce, customer service, and supply chain teams to align warehouse capabilities with demand and business objectives.

Key Requirements:
- Proven experience in a senior warehouse management role, ideally as a General Manager or equivalent.
- Demonstrable track record of leading warehouse operations within an ecommerce or high-volume distribution environment.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience building and developing warehouse teams.
- Hands-on experience managing inventory control and stock accuracy in a fast-paced setting.
- Solid understanding of warehouse processes, systems, and best practices, including picking, packing, and dispatch.
- Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety regulations and practical experience implementing compliant procedures.
- Experience managing operational change, including transitions from 3PL to in-house or similar transformation projects.
- Confident in using warehouse management systems (WMS) and interpreting operational data to inform decisions.

Desirable Skills:
- Experience opening new warehouse sites or greenfield operations.
- Background in multi-channel fulfilment, including ecommerce and retail/wholesale.
- Exposure to automation, scanning technology, or process optimisation tools within a warehouse environment.
- Ability to contribute to strategic planning and budgeting for warehouse operations.
- Experience working within SME or growth-focused businesses undergoing scale-up.
Qualifications:
- Relevant qualification in logistics, supply chain management, operations management, or a related discipline (e.g. HNC/HND, degree) preferred.
- Formal training or certification in health and safety (e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH) highly desirable.
- Evidence of leadership or management training/certification beneficial.
