About the Employer
The Plumbing Distribution Company Ltd (PDC) is a successful, family-run B2B distribution business that has proudly served plumbing merchants since 2006.
We are built around gold-standard service, reliability, trust, and continuous improvement. After 20 years of growth, we are entering an exciting new period of expansion.
The Role
This is a hands-on management position with responsibility for the day-to-day running of our warehouse and logistics operation.
You will lead and manage our Warehouse & Logistics Assistant Manager, drivers, and warehouse operatives, ensuring that goods are received, stored, picked, loaded, and delivered safely, accurately, and efficiently.
You will be responsible for planning resources, managing workloads and schedules, monitoring performance, and maintaining high standards of stock control, health & safety, and customer service.
Working closely with the Directors and wider management team, you will use operational data and KPIs to identify problems, improve processes, and drive continuous improvement.
We are looking for someone who is comfortable being visible and hands-on within the operation, while also having the leadership skills and commercial awareness to plan ahead, manage performance, and make sound day-to-day decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day warehouse and delivery operation.
- Lead, motivate, and manage warehouse and logistics employees, including induction, training, performance, and development.
- Plan daily and weekly staffing, workloads, delivery schedules, and resource requirements.
- Oversee goods-in, storage, picking, packing, loading, and dispatch operations.
- Maintain high standards of stock accuracy and investigate discrepancies, damage, losses, and picking errors.
- Coordinate delivery routes and schedules, responding effectively to customer requirements, traffic, vehicle issues, and staff absence.
- Manage driver performance, vehicle checks, defects, incidents, and vehicle-related records.
- Monitor operational KPIs including picking accuracy, delivery performance, stock accuracy, productivity, customer issues, vehicle utilisation, and staffing efficiency.
- Maintain a safe, organised, and efficient warehouse, ensuring company health & safety procedures are followed.
- Ensure appropriate training is completed, including manual handling, equipment use, safety procedures, and role-specific training.
- Work closely with Sales and Customer Service to resolve delivery, stock, and customer issues promptly.
- Identify opportunities to reduce errors, waste, and unnecessary costs and improve warehouse layout, workflow, and transport efficiency.
- Provide regular operational and KPI updates to the Directors.
- Take ownership of day-to-day operational problems and escalate significant matters appropriately.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
