Warehouse Manager

Hi Express – Salford, Manchester

Salary: £32,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week
Operation: 7 days a week
Current working hours: 7:00am – 3:30pm
Future shifts: Later shift patterns will be introduced as the business grows and volumes increase.

About the Role

Hi-Express is a growing fulfilment centre in Salford, Manchester, supporting brands and retailers with their warehousing, fulfilment and distribution needs.

We are looking for an experienced Warehouse Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day operation and lead our growing warehouse team.

This is a hands-on management role for someone with proven experience leading a warehouse team and the ability to keep a busy operation running safely, accurately and efficiently. As the business continues to grow, you will play an important role in developing the team, improving processes and preparing the warehouse for increased volumes and future shift patterns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the warehouse, ensuring operations are safe, efficient and well organised.
  • Lead, support and motivate the warehouse team, including task allocation, attendance and performance management.
  • Coordinate goods-in, picking, packing, goods-out and dispatch to ensure orders are processed accurately and on time.
  • Monitor stock levels and movements, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
  • Maintain high standards of organisation, cleanliness and workplace safety.
  • Train and develop new and existing team members, ensuring procedures and performance standards are maintained.
  • Identify operational issues and implement practical solutions and process improvements.
  • Work closely with the management team to improve efficiency and support wider business objectives.
  • Prepare the warehouse for increased order volumes and future shift expansion.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing, processes and standards are maintained across the 7-day operation.
  • Take ownership of creating a professional, productive and well-managed working environment.

Essential Requirements

We are looking for someone with:

  • Previous experience as a Warehouse Manager, Assistant Warehouse Manager, Warehouse Supervisor or similar senior role.
  • Proven track record of leading and motivating a team, including assigning daily tasks and monitoring performance.
  • Sound knowledge of goods-in, picking, packing, dispatch and stock control.
  • Excellent organisation, prioritisation and time-management skills.
  • High attention to detail when handling stock and customer orders.
  • Confident communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive approach to resolving issues and improving day-to-day processes.
  • Good knowledge of health & safety requirements within a warehouse environment.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of the site's performance.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, workloads and shift patterns.

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous but are not essential:

  • Background in 3PL, fulfilment, logistics or e-commerce.
  • Familiarity with WMS or stock management systems.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, growing fulfilment environment.
  • Experience working within a 7-day operation.
  • Involvement in process improvement, productivity initiatives or efficiency projects.
