Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
No two days will look exactly the same, but your typical week could include:
- Lifting and moving bulky stock items
- Picking and allocating stock
- Packaging goods ready for dispatch
- Checking the quality of goods
- Loading and unloading vehicles
- Checking products against delivery notes, including measuring door sizes and glass apertures
- Inputting information accurately onto computer systems
- Helping customers in person and over the phone in a courteous, polite and professional way
- Completing stock checks
- Keeping the warehouse and your workspace clean and tidy
You’ll have support around you while you learn, but we’ll also encourage you to stay focused, use your initiative and understand why accuracy matters at every stage.
Please note: This is a repetitive and very physical role. You will need to be comfortable lifting and moving heavy and bulky items throughout the day as part of the team.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Conduct risk assessments within the working environment.
- Apply safe working practices in line with associated health and safety legislation and company policy.
- Receive products in line with organisational procedures.
- Store and pick products in line with organisational procedures.
- Dispatch products in line with organisational procedures.
- Decant, pack products in line with organisational procedures.
- Communicate with others verbally, for example internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers.
- Communicate in writing with others, for example internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.
- Load and unload products, considering the product that is to be moved and its current and planned destination.
- Use tools and equipment to aid in product handling.
- Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
- Locate and use operational information, electronic or paper based, required to fulfil contractual requirements.
- Select, prepare, and use packaging materials that reduce waste and mitigate environmental impacts.
- Support under instruction scheduled and unscheduled stock taking activities relevant to the organisation and product.
- Identify and escalate problems beyond own responsibility.
- Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
- Follow equity, diversity and inclusion rules.
- Carry out and record learning and development activities.
- Conducts handover activities.

Training schedule
- Work-based training supported by a tutor from High Ridge Training.
- You’ll be expected to take an active approach to your learning, developing the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to become a qualified Warehouse Operative.
- The apprenticeship training is delivered on site and online, a combination of blended learning
- This includes the successful completion of the Level 2 Supply Chain Warehouse Operative qualification

At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

We’re looking for someone who:
- Has strong attention to detail and takes pride in getting things right
- Can stay focused on the task at hand
- Is energetic, enthusiastic and hardworking, with a positive, can-do attitude
- Is organised and able to work to deadlines and remain calm under pressure
- Gets on well with people at all levels, both face to face and over the phone
- Can understand and read metric and imperial measurements
- Is comfortable using computer systems and entering information accurately
- Is physically able to move and carry heavy, bulky goods as part of a team
- Is flexible and able to work shifts between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday
- Wants to learn, develop and build a longer-term career within the business
