Warehouse Operator

The Warehouse Operator is responsible for supporting the safe, accurate, and efficient movement of freight through the Aberdeen warehouse. The role includes receiving, checking, handling, packing, labelling, storing, loading, and dispatching cargo in line with operational requirements, customer instructions, and compliance standards.

Essential Job Functions

  • Receive inbound freight, verify piece counts, check condition, and confirm cargo matches paperwork, manifests, collection notes, or customer instructions.
  • Load and unload vehicles, including local collection vehicles, supplier deliveries, customer drop-offs, and scheduled trunk vehicles to gateway locations.
  • Prepare cargo for onward movement by packing, palletising, banding, labelling, measuring, weighing, photographing, and staging freight as required.
  • Support export and import activity by ensuring freight is handled in accordance with customer requirements, shipment deadlines, and operational priorities.
  • Identify and report discrepancies, shortages, damages, missing paperwork, dangerous goods declarations, or other exceptions to the operations team promptly.
  • Maintain accurate warehouse records, including goods received notes, shipment references, piece counts, weights, dimensions, and location updates.
  • Assist with container loading, devanning, transload activity, and warehouse handling tasks when required.
  • Support the preparation of truck manifests and ensure freight is ready for agreed collection or departure times.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards across the warehouse, yard, loading areas, and storage locations.
  • Follow all health, safety, security, and compliance procedures, including safe manual handling, equipment checks, and safe working practices around vehicles and freight.

Skills and Work Experience

  • 2 years experience in warehouse, logistics, freight forwarding, transport, or supply chain experience is desirable.
  • Ability to work safely in a busy warehouse environment and follow established procedures.
  • Good attention to detail when checking freight, paperwork, labels, references, weights, and dimensions.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with operations, drivers, suppliers, and customers.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise urgent freight and time-sensitive collections.
  • Awareness of export freight, air freight, ocean freight, dangerous goods, customs paperwork, or compliance requirements would be beneficial.
  • Forklift licence or experience using warehouse handling equipment is desirable.
  • Basic IT skills for updating warehouse records, shipment systems, or shared operational trackers.

  • Drivers, hauliers, and collection partners
  • Customers, suppliers, and vendors delivering to or collecting from the warehouse
  • Gateway teams and receiving stations for onward freight movement

  • Freight is received, checked, and dispatched accurately and on time.
  • Warehouse discrepancies are reported quickly and clearly.
  • Customer and operational instructions are followed correctly.
  • Warehouse areas remain safe, organised, and ready for daily activity.
  • All work is completed in line with company standards, compliance requirements, and health and safety expectations.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand or sit for long periods of time.
  • Reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch and frequently required to climb or balance
  • Regularly lift and/or move 25 kilo and occasionally lift and/or move 25 kilo by hand
  • Warehouse temperatures are variable and often uncontrolled, unless the product being stored requires that the maintenance of a specific temperature.
  • Ability to drive a forklift- and/or Reach truck and become certified by Crane Worldwide
