Warehouse Supervisor

Barnsley Warehouse

37.5 hours per week / rotating shift pattern covering hours between 6am-10pm

Job Purpose

To support the Warehouse Manager in leading the day-to-day warehouse operation, supervising a team of warehouse operatives ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient handling of goods from receipt through to dispatch maintaining high operational standards, and working hands-on alongside the team when required.

What You’ll Do

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all team members follow health and safety procedures and use equipment correctly
  • Conduct regular safety checks and report hazards or incidents promptly
  • Support the Warehouse Manager in accident investigations and implementing corrective actions

Operational Oversight

  • Supervise daily warehouse activities including goods-in, putaway, picking, packing, and despatch.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks to meet service levels and customer expectations
  • Allocate resources effectively and adjust priorities based on operational demands
  • Work hands-on with the team during peak periods or when operationally required
  • Support audits and stock checks, ensuring high levels of inventory accuracy

Team Leadership & Development

  • Conduct regular team briefings, 1:1s, and performance reviews to ensure alignment with operational goals
  • Support succession planning and staff development through mentoring and training initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and team engagement
  • Encourage a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the team

People Management

  • Supervise and lead a team of warehouse operatives, providing clear direction, coaching, and support
  • Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and company policies
  • Monitor attendance, performance, and conduct
  • Conduct return-to-work interviews, monitor attendance, and manage absence in line with company policy
  • Support performance management through regular feedback, reviews, and development planning
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and safety-conscious working environment
  • Address personnel issues promptly, escalating to management or HR when appropriate

Who You Are

Essential:

  • Experience in a warehouse or logistics environment, ideally in a supervisory or team leader role
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team
  • Hands-on approach with a willingness to work alongside the team when needed
  • Good understanding of warehouse operations and health & safety practices
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Confident in use of IT and WMS (Warehouse Management Systems)

Desirable:

  • Experience in industries involving boilers, air conditioning, heat pumps, solar, or EV charging products
  • Recognised health and safety qualification (e.g., IOSH Working Safely or equivalent)
  • Forklift license or experience with material handling equipment (MHE)
