Job Role - Distribution Centre Team Leader
Location - Burton on Trent
Working hours - 37.5 hours a week, 5 days over 7
6am to 2pm, 2pm – 10pm (flexibility is essential)
Salary - up to £27,341 per annum
Team Leaders support the operational team ensuring all colleagues are motivated, engaged and focused upon customer service, safety and operational efficiency.
Reporting to First Line Managers and Operations Team Manager the role key accountabilities are:
Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities

Responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Distribution Centre, including Goods Inwards, Put-away, Picking, Packing and Despatch operations, ensuring all tasks are completed safely, accurately, and within agreed timescales.

Lead, support, and motivate warehouse colleagues to achieve operational targets while promoting a culture of continuous improvement, health and safety, quality, and customer service excellence.

Conduct regular team briefings to communicate business updates, operational changes, and safety requirements.

Manage the daily operation and administration of the NAVISION Warehouse Management System (WMS), ensuring inventory transactions, stock movements, goods receipts, and despatch activities are processed accurately and in a timely manner.

Maintain stock integrity through regular system audits, investigate and resolve stock discrepancies, produce operational reports, and support inventory control processes to ensure high levels of stock accuracy.

Monitor team and shift performance against key performance indicators (KPIs), identifying and addressing operational issues to ensure productivity and service level targets are achieved.

Support the management of health and safety across the warehouse, including reporting and investigating accidents and incidents, implementing corrective actions, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

Support First Line Managers and Operations Team Managers in managing attendance and absence across the Distribution Centre, including conducting Return to Work meetings and assisting with absence investigations.

Handle day-to-day colleague queries and concerns, providing guidance and support to maintain a positive and productive working environment.

Manage low-level conduct matters and carry out disciplinary investigations in line with company procedures and under the guidance of the People Manager.

Assist with workforce planning by forecasting resource requirements, coordinating staffing levels, monitoring time and attendance records, and liaising with agency account managers to ensure adequate labour coverage and operational efficiency.

Required Skills & Experience
- Proven ability to identify, investigate, and resolve operational issues at shop-floor level, ensuring minimal disruption to warehouse activities and service levels.
- Strong commitment to promoting a culture of Health & Safety, Continuous Improvement, and operational excellence.
- Experience using NAVISION Warehouse Management System (WMS) or similar warehouse management software, with a focus on inventory accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Practical experience using handheld terminals and RF scanners to support picking, put-away, goods receipt, stock control, and periodic inventory counting activities.
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing warehouse teams, including rota planning, holiday scheduling, performance management, and addressing conduct-related matters.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, engage, and develop colleagues while maintaining a positive and productive working environment.
- Energetic, proactive, and empathetic approach to people management, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to support varied operational demands, tasks, and shift patterns.
