Job summary – What to expect:

Based at Hamble, the Vehicle Driver is responsible for the safe, compliant collection, transportation, delivery, and storage of chemical raw materials, engineering spares, and other goods between the UKM Hamble Goods-in Warehouse and the Adanac Park Vision Centre Stores, following daily schedules, forward plans, relevant SOPs, and Work Instructions. The role requires competent operation of vehicles, forklift trucks (FLTs), and other material-handling equipment, while working closely with the Hamble Warehouse team and Vision Centre Stores staff and providing support to Warehouse, Spares Stores, Facilities, and Stores teams where appropriately trained.

Your responsibilities will include:

Health and Safety:

  • Comply with Health & Safety at Work Act and promote good EHS and GMP practice within teams to ensure a safe working environment for all employees and visitors to the areas of work. Particularly, ensure safe use of specialist equipment such as vehicles, lift trucks, pallet movers, racking, refrigeration, and other electrical equipment.
  • Comply with safe handling, storage & transporting hazardous chemicals.
  • Comply with all site PPE policies, particularly for Warehouse & Storage areas, driving company vehicles and any other general activities carried out.
  • Carry out daily checks against established EHS and GMP checklists covering equipment such as Vehicles, FLTs and Temperature Controlled Storage.

  • Drive authorized company vehicles between CV sites, with focus on deliveries and collections to and from the Vision Centre. Includes operating all necessary materials handling equipment related to loading & off-loading vehicles.
  • Driver competence for Vehicles & FLTs must be maintained at the required (high) level.
  • Liaise daily with the Hamble Warehouse Team Leader and the counterpart at the Adanac Park Vision Centre to establish planned transportation schedules for the day(s) / week(s) ahead. Also, respond to any urgent ad-hoc transport requests arising.
  • Follow all prescribed SOPs / WIs designated to the role, particularly those associated with Cold-chain Materials and Hazardous Goods for Transport.
  • When required, aid the Hamble Warehouse team and Vision Centre Facilities / Stores team where trained to do so. This may include onward distribution of materials, spare parts and non-inventory goods to BU users.
  • Gain understanding of the computer-based inventory management systems operated within UKM and the Vision Centre. This is mainly Oracle ERP, Agile and MS Office
  • Follow all systems, procedures, routines for accurately receiving, completing and archiving transaction records.
  • Report any issues to Line Management to ensure minimum disruption, maximum service levels and optimized work / task planning.
  • Demonstrate a high level of teamwork, contributing to an engaged and inclusive working environment, whilst able to self-motivate.

Experience & Education:

  • Full clean Driving License (vehicles up to 3.5 mt)
  • Good working knowledge of general Warehouse & Inventory Management processes and environments
  • User of computer-based inventory systems (or competence to achieve this)
  • Materials Handling Equipment License; forklift trucks, pallet stacker and associated attachments such as barrel lift and extensions (or competence to achieve this)
  • ADR awareness would be beneficial
  • Good Communication Skills, written & verbal
  • Planning / Organising
  • Working with others as part of a team and self-motivated to work as an individual
  • Problem solving
  • Proactive and Service Driven
  • Continuous improvement/change orientation
  • 1 – 2 years previous experience of working in a Warehouse / Driving role
  • Previous experience of transporting chemical goods or similar would be of benefit

Post-holder will be driving company delivery vehicles and operating manual handling equipment such as Lift Trucks where safe and competent operating technique is essential.

Additionally, working environments will be indoor and outdoor working within the Warehouse & Storage areas of Hamble, Chandler’s Ford and Adanac Park Vision Centre sites, including Cold Stores, yards and drop off / collection points.
