Purpose of the Role

The Waste & Cleaning Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality cleaning with a focus on waste management services across designated areas. This role ensures that all cleaning operations meet health, safety, and hygiene standards, and that waste is managed efficiently, sustainably, and in compliance with environmental regulations. The supervisor will oversee and support a team of operatives, coordinate daily tasks, monitor performance, and liaise with the Soft Service Management team to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and customers.

You will work with other team members to be the ambassadors for reducing general waste and increasing recycling.

Key Responsibilities

Waste / Service Areas

  • This is a hands-on role responsible for delivering high standards of cleanliness and effective waste management across the site.
  • It is the Supervisor's role to support and oversee the service deck team to ensure all daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic tasks are completed in line with agreed schedules. The role includes daily waste collection, segregation, and recycling activities, ensuring compliance with environmental policies and operational procedures.
  • The Supervisor is responsible for logging and timing all tasks to support resource planning and staffing assessments.
  • Help promote recycling initiatives and support the centre’s sustainability targets. Coordinate with the waste team and tenants to ensure proper disposal and that recycling practices are adhered to.
  • Ensure that all waste disposal areas, compactor and baling areas, service deck and general back-of-house areas are kept debris-free and clean.
  • Have a good knowledge of all facilities and processes in order to deal with customers' queries, complaints, and compliments in line with company procedures.
  • Report hazards, incidents, and maintenance issues promptly using the appropriate systems and procedures.
  • Ensure that all areas of responsibility are cleaned to the required standards and that all machinery is well-maintained.
  • Monitor weather conditions, and implement gritting procedures in winter months where required.
  • Report and deal with pigeon fouling and carcasses as they occur in accordance with training.
  • Ensure Health & Safety and monitor staff adherence to safe working practices and the relevant training in relation to moving vehicles.
  • Assist management with the training of staff in Savills Safe Systems of Work, Risk Assessments, and Toolbox talks, and ensure staff fully understand these practices and return any signed documentation to the Centre management team in a timely fashion.

Car Park

  • Supervise and coordinate the cleaning operations within the centre’s car park, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for visitors.
  • Oversee daily cleaning of car park areas including floors, stairwells, entrances, exits, perimeter, piazza, signage, and pay stations. It is the Supervisor's role to support and oversee the car park cleaning team to ensure all daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic tasks are completed in line with agreed schedules. To maintain high standards of cleanliness, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • The Supervisor is responsible for logging and timing all tasks to support resource planning and staffing assessments.
  • Monitor cleanliness standards and carry out regular inspections. Ensure cleaning equipment is maintained and used correctly.
  • Report hazards, incidents, and maintenance issues to management.
  • Respond to customer queries or complaints related to car park cleanliness. Maintain a professional and approachable presence in the car park and support the centre’s commitment to providing a positive visitor experience.

General

  • Use of various machines in accordance with requirements including compactors, baler, pallet trucks, tenant cleaning machines, escalator cleaners, pressure washers, and vacuum cleaning machines.
  • Ensure 'Machinery Checks' are carried out prior to machines being used. All pallet trucks and other mobile machines are to be secured. To ensure the safe operation of machinery using the operator's guide and wear protective clothing/footwear at all times.
  • To comply with all health and safety procedures for the department including COSHH, PPE, clinical waste, and sharps policy.
  • To attend regular team briefings and meetings.
  • Maintaining a smart and well-groomed appearance meeting our uniform standards.
  • Attending in-house and external training relevant to your role.
  • Carry out reasonable tasks requested by members of the supervisory/management team such as working in other areas of the centre where required.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

Essential

  • The ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery used in waste recycling processes.
  • The capability to undertake the physical tasks on a repetitive basis during working hours in accordance with manual handling.
  • The ability to walk, bend, push, pull, and lift repetitively during working hours.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper storage and disposal methods & COSHH.
  • Ability to operate complex machinery (after training) such as compactors and balers.
  • Experience of waste management and sustainability practices.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to identify and complete needed tasks without direct supervision.
  • To have a confident and friendly disposition.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexible/supportive team player.
  • Stronger leadership and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends.

Desirable

  • BICS or similar cleaning qualification.
  • Driving licence.
  • Environmental or sustainability training/awareness.
  • Health & Safety Certification (IOSH) is preferred.

Working Hours - 40h – 5 days out of 7

Salary - £29,426.00 per annum
