Waste Operative
Location: Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire
Shift Pattern: Mon-Fri, 07:30 - 16:00 (Standard)
Note: Continental shift cover required to support team holiday requests.
Role Overview
We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Waste Operator to manage day-to-day waste handling operations at our pet food manufacturing facility. In this role, you will be responsible for collecting, processing, and recording waste streams across the factory floor, ensuring high standards of site hygiene, environmental compliance, and operational efficiency.
What You’ll Do
- Waste Collection & Transport: Efficiently collect and transport waste containers throughout the manufacturing site using Forklift Trucks (FLT) and electric vehicles.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate waste processing equipment, including compactor units and balers, following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Waste Data Capture: Use basic IT tools and systems to log and accurately track waste generation data.
- Site Compliance & Housekeeping: Maintain clean, safe, and compliant waste management areas in line with factory hygiene and health & safety standards.
- Flexible Shift Cover: Provide holiday cover for team members on continental shift patterns when required.

What You’ll Need
- Experience: Previous experience in a waste management, manufacturing, or warehousing environment (pet food/FMCG experience is a plus).
- Licences: Valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck (FLT) licence is desirable but full training will be provided.
- IT Skills: Basic digital/IT literacy to accurately input operational waste data.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible shift patterns (continental cover) to support planned holiday requests.
- Attributes: Self-motivated, attentive to health & safety protocols, and able to work well independently as well as part of a wider team.
Working Conditions & Hours
- Standard Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 16:00.
- Shift Flexibility: Requirement to cover continental shifts during staff leave.
- Workplace Environment: Fully on-site at a busy pet food manufacturing facility.
