Summary

The Waste Development Officer is a pivotal role within a local authority, tasked with enhancing waste services across Cambridgeshire. This position is crucial for improving service performance, supporting environmental initiatives, and fostering community engagement to reduce waste, increase reuse, and boost recycling rates. The role involves operational, contractual, and partnership responsibilities, aiming to drive significant behavioural change within communities.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate waste service performance through site visits and observations.
  • Identify and resolve service issues in collaboration with contractors.
  • Conduct surveys and assess infrastructure for maintenance and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records, analyze data, and support administrative tasks such as minute taking.
  • Develop and deliver waste awareness campaigns to encourage behavioural change.
  • Engage with the public through events, schools, community meetings, and digital channels.
  • Create and maintain public-facing content across websites, newsletters, and social media.
  • Utilise data insights to enhance communication strategies and measure campaign effectiveness.

Requirements

Essential Experience Required:

  • Experience in delivering clear and engaging communications to influence behaviour.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to analyze data and present insights effectively.
  • Experience working in a collaborative, stakeholder-focused environment.

Essential Qualifications Required:

  • Education to A-Level, HNC/HND level or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g., Environment, Business, Law).

Additional Information:

  • Working hours: 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9am–5pm with flexible hours available. Occasional weekend and evening work required.
  • All applicants must hold a valid UK Driving Licence and have access to their own vehicle.
  • Mileage expenses covered.
  • PPE provided.
  • Location: Waterbeach Waste Management Park, CB25 9PG.
  • Working Schedule: Hybrid – onsite visits required, up to 3 days onsite at Waterbeach Management Park and working from home.
  • Duration: 12-week temporary role with potential to move to a fixed-term basis with Cambridgeshire County Council until March 2028.
  • DBS Requirement: Enhanced DBS.
