Qualifications

Essential criteria

• Undergraduate and Master’s Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
• Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

Desirable criteria

• Chartered status or membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIWM, CILT, IEMA).

Experience

Essential criteria

• Substantial senior-level experience managing aspects such as waste, logistics, or sustainability services within a complex organisation.
• Proven track record of developing and implementing strategic plans and policies.
• Experience in managing budgets and business cases.
• Successful delivery of large-scale change or transformation programmes.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and working across multiple sites.
• Strong background in regulatory compliance and audit.

Desirable criteria

• Experience within an NHS or healthcare setting.
• Involvement in capital or infrastructure projects.
• Experience with NHS ERIC returns or national waste/environmental reporting systems.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria

• In-depth knowledge of UK waste legislation, HTM 07-01, and environmental compliance standards.
• Strong understanding of logistics operations.
• Knowledge of NHS sustainability goals, Net Zero strategy, and circular economy principles.
• Understanding of contract management.
• Excellent leadership and people management skills.
• Strategic thinking with the ability to align operational delivery to long-term objectives.
• Strong financial and analytical skills; ability to interpret complex data and performance metrics.
• Effective stakeholder engagement and relationship-building across organisations.
• Excellent and strong written and verbal communication; able to present reports at Board level.
• Ability to manage conflicting priorities and work under pressure.

Desirable criteria

• Knowledge of NHS governance and strategic planning frameworks.
• Awareness of emerging environmental technologies and digital logistics solutions.
• Ability to influence and negotiate at a senior level within cross-sector partnerships.
