Location: Filton, Bristol
Hours: Monday to Friday, 06:00 – 14:30
Contract Type: Permanent
About the Role
We are seeking a resolute and safety-conscious Waste Operative to join our waste management team. This is a vital role supporting the efficient collection, segregation, and disposal of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams across our site operations.
Working closely with the Waste Team Leader and on-site Supervisor, you will play a key part in ensuring our site maintains the highest standards of waste management, environmental compliance, and workplace safety.
What your day to day will look like
- Waste Collection and Management: You will be responsible for the safe collection and transportation of various waste streams from multiple locations around the site. This includes managing both hazardous materials (including IBCs and drums) and non-hazardous waste, ensuring correct segregation and handling procedures are followed.
- Transportation and Logistics: Operating a flatbed vehicle, you will transport collected waste materials to the designated waste yard. All movements must be conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with site traffic management procedures and relevant transport regulations.
- Waste Yard Operations: Within the waste yard, you will prepare waste materials for collection by licensed contractors. This includes organizing, labelling, and staging waste according to regulatory requirements and contractor specifications, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete.
- Equipment Operation: You will operate a counterbalance forklift truck to move, stack, and organize waste containers and materials. Safe operation and daily equipment checks are essential aspects of this responsibility.
- Team Collaboration: Working as an integral member of the waste team, you will communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and contractors to ensure smooth operations and timely waste removal. You will support team objectives and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Health, Safety, and Compliance: Maintaining strict adherence to health and safety protocols is paramount. You will follow all site-specific procedures for handling hazardous materials, wear appropriate personal protective equipment, and report any incidents, near-misses, or equipment defects immediately.

Essential Requirements
- Licenses and Certifications: A full UK driving license is essential for this role, as you will be driving site vehicles daily. A valid counterbalance forklift truck license is required. Both licenses must be in date and free from restrictions that would prevent operation of required vehicles and equipment.
- Experience and Knowledge: Previous experience in handling both hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams is highly desirable. Familiarity with waste segregation principles, environmental regulations, and safe handling procedures will be advantageous. Experience working in industrial, manufacturing, or facilities management environments is beneficial.
- Skills and Attributes: You must be safety-focused with strong diligence, ensuring compliance with all operational procedures. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential. Physical fitness is required, as the role involves manual handling, working outdoors in various weather conditions, and maintaining alertness during early morning starts.
- Availability: You must be available to work the fixed shift pattern of 06:00 to 14:30, Monday to Friday, and be dependable and punctual in attendance.
