About the role
As a Solo Solver, you’ll be one of the first points of contact when wastewater incidents or customer issues arise. You’ll investigate problems, identify what has caused them, and make sure the appropriate action is taken. You’ll also help ensure customers receive a professional and efficient service throughout the process.
The role is practical and varied, with much of the work carried out independently as a “Solo Solver”. You could be responding to blockages, odours, or pest incidents, carrying out investigations and inspections, and taking ownership of resolving issues safely and effectively, while liaising with specialist teams where more complex support is required.
What you’ll be doing
- Respond to wastewater incidents, including flooding, blockages, Pest and equipment problems.
- Investigate issues and identify their underlying causes.
- Carry out practical work such as high-pressure water jetting and CCTV surveys where required.
- Communicate with customers and provide clear updates throughout an incident.
- Work closely with colleagues, contractors, and external partners to resolve problems efficiently.
- Follow all health and safety requirements and environmental procedures.
- Record incident information accurately and complete relevant reports.
- Issue appropriate notices when access to private property is required for essential work.
- Keep customers informed from the beginning of an incident through to completion.
- Make sure jobs are properly closed down and record any lessons that could improve future responses.
- Assist with local incident response when larger or more serious events occur.
- Help with customer-awareness campaigns and provide advice on issues such as appropriate items to dispose of or flush.

What we’re looking for
To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have:
- 5 GCSEs (A–C) or equivalent, including Maths and English.
- A full UK driving licence.
- The ability and willingness to work in confined spaces.
- An understanding of water industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work alone effectively along with different teams and departments when necessary.
- Strong organisation and time-management skills.
- A practical approach to investigating and resolving problems.
- The ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with pressure or difficult situations.
- Good written communication skills and the ability to produce clear and accurate reports.
- A willingness to work independently while also contributing positively as part of a team.

Working hours
The position is based on a 48-hour working week with a rotating shift arrangement.
You will work 12-hour shifts, with operational coverage between 08:00 and 20:00, Monday to Sunday.
Weekend working will therefore form part of the normal rota.
