Wastewater Modeller – Scotland Region, AECOM

We’re currently the preferred bidder for two of Scottish Water’s SR27 Enterprise Primary Designers, overseeing a multi-billion-pound programme to modernise water and wastewater systems between 2027–2033 (with potential extensions).

Responsibilities
Core Duties

Support senior engineers in delivering wastewater modelling projects, focusing on:
- Model build, calibration, and validation using leading industry software (e.g., InfoWorks ICM).
- Data analysis, reporting, and documentation.
- Contributing to optioneering and design solution assessments.
- Assessing projects within budget and programme constraints.

Collaborate effectively:
- Engage with internal teams (field, design, consultants) and external stakeholders.
- Participate in project meetings and assist with progress reporting.

Requirements
Essential Criteria
- Some exposure to wastewater modelling tools (e.g., InfoWorks ICM) or academic exposure to the topic.
- Basic engineering knowledge of water/wastewater systems.
- Ability to analyse data and present findings clearly.
- Strong organisation and prioritisation skills, able to manage workload with guidance.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Willingness to learn, adapt, and develop technical expertise.
Preferred Criteria
- Degree or Master’s in Civil, Environmental, or related engineering. Your future mindset matters, not a ‘check-the-box’ alternative degree.
- Interest in becoming a wastewater modelling specialist.
- Basic proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Python) or an aptitude to learn.
- Working towards (or poised for) professional accreditation in civil (ICE) or environmental consultancies (CIWEM).
