This position reports to: Water Industry Manager


In this role, you will be responsible for driving growth and securing orders for the UK Drives business through direct and indirect sales within the UK water industry. You will have accountability for developing and managing key stakeholder relationships across water companies and industry bodies within your designated territory. The role involves proactively promoting and selling a broad range of drive products and services, both directly to customers and through multiple sales channels, whilst working within HSE guidelines and our integrity culture.

Your Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll help run what runs the world, by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact.

Work model: Home based position ideally located in the South of England, with regular travel required to customer sites and ABB locations.

  • Creates, plans and implements sales strategy, and strategic sales and business development initiatives, in alignment with global sales strategy and AMP. Achieves sales targets in respect of both budgets and sales efficiency and in line with global requirements.
  • Sales targets: Establishes sales targets and ensures sales achievement through regular oversight and definition and implementation of improvement plans as needed.
  • Cross-Business Collaboration: Works collaboratively across business units to expand market share and strengthen ABB's position in the water sector, driving mutual growth opportunities.
  • Customer acquisition: Identifies opportunities at existing and potential new customers within defined geographical area, and determines plans for acquisition and allocates resources.
  • Information sharing: Coordinates the flow of information for sales activities and transactions, including leads, billings, orders, contracts, etc. and evaluates data to ensure achievement of goals. Monitors and provides reports to the Marketing and Sales organization on market intelligence.
  • Customer relations: Supports the development of strong relationships with key customers.
  • Framework and Supplier Management: Manages relevant frameworks and supplier agreements to strengthen market position and customer presence within the water industry. Builds and maintains strong relationships with key decision makers. Ensures efficient marketing communications.
  • Volume, profit and cost: Ensures achievement of sales volume and product mix targets by setting appropriate price and margin for sales. Participates on negotiations of key contracts. Manages ongoing costs.
  • Risk Monitors: Reviews client financial status and reports any changes regarding risk to relevant internal partner teams. Identifies and manages potential risks relating to contract agreements across customers/channels.
  • Sales process: Takes ownership of the sales processes, and all relevant training and development plans, actions and programs.

Qualifications for the Role

  • Knowledge of UK water industry regulatory framework (Ofwat, Environment Agency standards, WIMES)
  • Strong ethical and commercial awareness
  • Min 3 years sales experience, preferably within an engineering related environment
  • Highly organized and independent.
  • A full driving license
  • Proven expertise in variable speed drives and automation solutions, with ability to articulate technical benefits to water industry stakeholders
  • Strong industry connections across the water sector
  • Qualified to degree level in an engineering discipline or relevant experience
