About the Role

You will be part of an energetic and professional team at the Wellington Health & Fitness Club, delivering high-quality service to members, pupils, and staff. You will work within a busy and rewarding environment where service standards, teamwork, and professional development are all valued.

Wellington Health & Fitness Club is looking for a caring, alert, and encouraging Water Helper to join its Swim School. Working 7 hours per week for 36 weeks of the year, you will support Early Years Stage 1 and 2 swimming lessons, helping young children feel secure, included, and ready to take their next steps in the water.

Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive in-water support during swimming lessons
  • Follow the direction and plan of each lesson
  • Encourage children in a positive, age-appropriate way
  • Help each child participate with growing confidence, enjoyment, and trust
  • Ensure the pool remains a calm and purposeful learning environment
  • Help prepare and put away equipment
  • Assist with registers
  • Support the smooth start and finish of lessons

Pupil Welfare

  • Remain vigilant throughout lessons
  • Use sound judgment when circumstances change
  • Communicate concerns promptly to the Swimming Teacher or appropriate manager
  • Work in line with established safeguarding, health and safety, pool operating, and emergency procedures
  • Use equipment responsibly and report any faults or hazards without delay
  • Provide first aid where required and within the scope of your current training

Customer Focus

  • Offer a warm and professional welcome to children, parents, members, and visitors
  • Contribute to a clean, well-presented environment
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Swim School and wider Club, including when additional support is needed

Requirements

  • A confident swimmer with a genuine enthusiasm for helping children develop early water skills
  • Clear and sensitive communication skills
  • Ability to build positive professional relationships
  • Calm and effective in a pool-based setting
  • Experience in leisure, health, and fitness or another customer-facing environment is valuable
  • Understanding of safe working practices in an educational setting
  • Pool-related qualifications, including the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification or ASA water helper and swimming teaching qualifications, are welcomed
  • Maintain the training required for the role
