The opportunity
Awa integrates its strengths in modelling, engineering design, and urban planning to deliver innovative, world-class outcomes. Our work ranges from river regeneration and wetland creation through to engineering and consenting for residential and industrial developments, and the development of sophisticated flood models for urban catchments and major infrastructure.

With exciting projects and opportunities ahead, we are seeking an exceptional Water Infrastructure Engineer to provide three waters engineering design with a focus on stormwater for our clients in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and across New Zealand. Your skills will also complement our team of water specialists, environmental engineers, hydraulic modellers, and scientists in the fields of water infrastructure and land development.
Key Responsibilities
As part of a skilled and supportive team, you’ll be responsible for:
- 3 waters infrastructure design, with a focus on stormwater infrastructure.
- Preparation of technical engineering reports and calculations.
- Project management to help ensure projects are to scope, budget and schedule.
- A more senior role would include full ownership of more complex projects.
- Client management (regular communication, project updates).
- Undertaking site inspections and collecting field data.
- 3910 contract management.
- Contribute to building Awa's capability and culture.
- Owning a client project portfolio or contributing to client strategy, developing existing and new client relationships.
- Winning new work through existing or new clients, preparation of proposal and contracts.
- Guiding, leading, and training (for those in Senior roles).

About You
Are you passionate about stormwater infrastructure and the part it can play in bringing together communities? Does your passion extend to water supply and wastewater infrastructure? Do you want to work in a small, high performing team and have a real opportunity to guide the direction of the business and your work? Do you have a heart for people and the environment? If this sounds like you, we’d love to talk.
We Welcome Candidates With Track Record In The Following:
- Undertaking 3 waters infrastructure design, with a focus on stormwater infrastructure
- Design of in stream remediation works, stormwater ponds, wetlands, and other nature-based solutions
- The ability to work with a range of disciplines, including planning, ecology, landscape architecture, and other engineering disciplines
- Proven experience delivering design drawings using Civil 3D (preferred) or 12d, either self-performed or working closely with a CAD operator
- Familiarity with local council regulations
- Stormwater and water modelling using software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, EPANET, SSA, and SWMM
- Experience in 2D hydraulic modelling, blue/green infrastructure, NZS 3910 contract management, and land development engineering beneficial
- A genuine interest in Te Ao Māori
- An adaptive and nimble mindset, able to work fluidly across offices & people
- Pragmatic and hands-on, focused on great outcomes for clients and company growth
- Strong commercial acumen.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- CPEng or actively working towards
- Strong time management and project management skills
- Excellent communication and writing abilities
