Water Maintenance Craftsman/Hoisting Operator/Laborer
Salary Range: $26.13 - $31.27 per hour
The City of Attleboro Water Treatment Plant is seeking two (2) Water Maintenance Craftsman/Hoisting Operator/Laborers. Under the supervision of the Superintendent and foreman staff, this position operates trucks and hoisting equipment with a rated capacity over 9 tons and performs skilled labor related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution system.
Responsibilities include installing and repairing water mains, service lines, hydrants, and meters; locating and repairing water leaks; operating heavy equipment such as backhoes, cranes, loaders, and trench diggers; supervising small crews; and participating in snow and ice removal operations. The position also involves routine equipment maintenance, loading and hauling materials, and other related public works duties.

- Operates hoisting and heavy construction equipment, including backhoes, cranes, loaders, trench diggers, and other specialized machinery.
- Supervises small crews and operates heavy motor vehicles and equipment with a rated capacity over 9 tons.
- May also perform duties associated with a Heavy Motor Equipment Operator (MEO) or Motor Equipment Repairman.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two years of experience performing manual labor and operating hoisting equipment required, along with possession of a 2B Hoisting License.
- A Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) and a Massachusetts Grade 2 Distribution License are required; however, these may be obtained after employment.
- Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
Candidates must possess considerable knowledge of the functions and operating methods of a wide variety of heavy and complex construction equipment used in excavating, loading, grading, rolling, and street resurfacing. Thorough knowledge of the hazards, safety practices, and operating procedures associated with this equipment is also required.
