Agenda for Change Band 6 – Competitive Salary

Ready to impact a better future?

As a Maintenance Officer – Water and Pressure Systems in our Estates and Facilities team, you’ll help protect patients, colleagues, and visitors by ensuring critical water systems remain safe, compliant, and effective. Your expertise will support frontline healthcare services in an environment where your work has purpose every day.

Water safety plays a vital role in patient care, infection prevention, and operational resilience. In this specialist position, you’ll work with engineers, clinical teams, contractors, and water safety stakeholders to manage risks, maintain compliance, and create impactful solutions that support a safe healthcare environment. Your knowledge and commitment will help deliver a positive impact on communities while ensuring trust and care remain at the heart of everything we do.

Although water systems and water safety will be your primary area of expertise, you'll also work as part of the wider Estates & Facilities function.

You’ll have involvement with associated mechanical services, including pressure systems, booster sets, pressure vessels, heating, and chilled-water systems. You’ll work alongside mechanical and engineering colleagues to ensure these systems are safely maintained and coordinated.

There may also be opportunities to develop your knowledge and competence in associated engineering disciplines, including pressure systems and Authorised Person responsibilities.

What you’ll do as a Maintenance Officer – Water And Pressure Systems

  • Support the management and control of water safety risks across the hospital estate.
  • Carry out and oversee planned preventative maintenance, inspections, and statutory compliance activities for domestic hot and cold-water systems.
  • Apply Healthcare Technical Memorandum (HTM) 04-01 and Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) L8 requirements within a healthcare environment.
  • Monitor water quality performance, including Legionella, Pseudomonas, and Total Viable Count (TVC) results, and coordinate appropriate actions.
  • Maintain accurate compliance records, risk assessments, schematics, and maintenance documentation.
  • Work closely with specialist contractors, engineering colleagues, and the Water Safety Group to support safe and effective water management.

Does this sound like you?

  • Significant practical experience working with domestic water systems within a healthcare, public sector, or similarly regulated environment.
  • Confident identifying risks, interpreting water quality information, challenging poor practice, and working with others to ensure effective controls are in place.
  • Strong knowledge of HTM 04-01 and ACoP L8 requirements.
  • Experience managing risks associated with Legionella and Pseudomonas, including monitoring, sampling, and remedial activities.
  • Knowledge of water sampling, monitoring, temperature control, flushing, and disinfection.
  • Experience with TMVs, water storage tanks, filtration, and point-of-use filtration systems.
  • Knowledge of hot and cold-water distribution systems and associated pipework.
  • Experience identifying water safety risks and implementing appropriate remedial measures.
  • Experience working with Water Safety Groups, Responsible Persons, or similar water safety governance arrangements.
  • A relevant City & Guilds, NVQ, or equivalent qualification in plumbing, water hygiene, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with healthcare water systems and SHTM requirements would be highly desirable.
  • Someone who understands that water safety is more than routine maintenance.
  • Experience managing specialist contractors and maintenance teams.
  • Good understanding of risk assessments, RAMS, COSHH, and safe systems of work.
  • Good IT skills and, ideally, experience using a CAFM system.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
