Job Description
We're seeking ambitious and motivated graduates who are eager to begin their career in structural engineering and make a real impact in the water sector. Whether you're a recent graduate or have already gained some industry experience, we're looking for people who are excited to learn, develop, and grow with our team.
At AECOM, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to vital infrastructure projects that improve communities, protect the environment, and support the delivery of essential water services. As part of our structural engineering team, you'll gain experience across a broad range of water sector projects, providing an excellent platform to develop both your technical and professional skills.
Our work spans the full water cycle, offering exposure to diverse and challenging projects, including flood defence infrastructure, large-diameter tanks and deep shafts for wastewater networks, and the design and assessment of tanks, buildings, and industrial steelwork associated with water and wastewater treatment facilities.
From day one, you'll work alongside experienced engineers who are committed to your development. You'll be given real responsibility, supported to build your technical expertise, and encouraged to play an active role in delivering innovative and sustainable engineering solutions.
We're passionate about investing in our people and supporting long-term career development. As part of our graduate programme, you'll receive guidance and mentorship on your journey towards professional chartership, with support for achieving qualifications such as MICE and MISTRUCTE.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Previous work experience or placements within engineering are beneficial but not essential. We're more interested in your enthusiasm, drive, and determination to learn.
