Overview
Job Title: Youth Substance Use Support Worker
Position Duration: Permanent
Hourly wage: $26.75
Location and Hours/week:
- 1st position - Trail/Salmo; 35 hours/week
- 2nd position - Nakusp; 14 hours/week
- 3rd position - Grand Forks; 35 hours/week
Vacation: 8% accrual
Benefits (only For Positions Working 21 Hours/week Or More)
- Full benefits paid by employer

Position Summary
One-on-One Services
- intake

Community Engagement
- attend, contribute, and/or host local interagency meetings
- join & participate in local advisory committees
- attend, host, and/or facilitate educational presentations
- host community support groups as needed
Recreation
- coordinate with Freedom Quest’s Recreation Coordinator to facilitate youth engagement in recreational activities
- assess individual and community recreational needs
- co-facilitate youth engagement in recreational activities
- participate in recreational activities

Administration
- manage program budget
- collect program data
- participate in strategic planning initiatives
- participate in fundraising activities
- seek out and participate in training opportunities
- perform duties in accordance with Freedom Quest’s Policy Manual
- prepare statistical, outcome, and narrative reports
- attend general staff meetings
- engage in and prepare for clinical supervision
- inform community partners about Freedom Quest programs and services
- maintain current & accurate client files and other records
Education/Experience
Knowledge Skills, and Abilities
- A 2-year diploma in child and youth care, social work or related field (REQUIRED)
- Three years of experience working with youth who are adversely affected by substances (ASSET)
- Experience working in a one-on-one and/or counselling capacity using a variety of therapeutic theories, modalities, and tools (ASSET)
- Experience working with groups (ASSET)
- Experience working from a harm-reduction, client-centred, strengths-based, attachment and trauma-informed approach (ASSET)
- Willingness to engage in life-long learning and self-reflexivity practices to understand Indigenous worldviews and the important role of culture in facilitating healing. (REQUIRED)
- Recognition that colonization continues to impact the health and wellness of Indigenous Peoples. This includes recognizing the role of trauma and offering trauma-informed care. (REQUIRED)
- Experience working with youth in an outdoor/wilderness setting (ASSET)

Other Requirements
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification (REQUIRED)
- Criminal Record Check (inclusive of Vulnerable Sector) (REQUIRED)
- Valid FoodSafe Certification (REQUIRED)
- Valid Class V BC Driver’s License (REQUIRED, Class IV preferred)
- Driver’s Abstract (REQUIRED)
- Reliable Vehicle (REQUIRED)
- Valid ASIST Certification (ASSET)
