1st Line Risk & Conduct SME – Private Client Wealth

Wealth Proposition | 6 month contract | Outside IR35 | Market rate

Investec is progressing a significant growth agenda within its UK Private Client franchise to deliver our ambition to scale a high-touch, advice-led proposition that combines private banking, wealth capabilities, digital access and the wider One Investec ecosystem. As part of this, the business is developing a broader UK Wealth proposition that will require robust, client-centred operational foundations across onboarding, servicing, fulfilment, controls and governance.

This is a 1st Line risk & conduct SME contract role for someone who can provide specialist risk, regulatory and compliance input into the end-to-end design and launch of the new UK Wealth proposition. You will work as part of a small central build squad, partnering with proposition, platform, service, risk, compliance, legal, governance and operational stakeholders to ensure the target client experience is designed in line with regulatory requirements, Consumer Duty expectations, conduct risk principles and 1st Line control ownership from day one.

What you will be doing

  • Provide specialist 1st Line risk input into the end-to-end design of the new UK Wealth proposition, ensuring risks, controls and regulatory obligations are considered throughout the client journey.
  • Co-create proposed client journeys, product features, service models and governance arrangements against relevant regulatory requirements, compliance standards and Consumer Duty outcomes.
  • Identify conduct, client outcome, financial crime, operational resilience, data, complaints, disclosure and suitability considerations that need to be addressed in the proposition design.
  • Work with Risk, Compliance, Legal, Proposition, Platform, Service and Operations teams to surface regulatory gaps, control requirements, ownership points and design decisions required before launch.
  • Support the definition of 1st Line control ownership, governance touchpoints, evidence requirements, approvals, escalation routes and ongoing monitoring needs.
  • Challenge design choices where they create unnecessary regulatory, conduct or client outcome risk, and recommend practical mitigations that preserve the intended client experience.
  • Contribute to launch readiness artefacts by ensuring regulatory, compliance, Consumer Duty and 1st Line risk requirements are clearly captured and understood.
  • Provide clear input into programme governance on key risks, assumptions, dependencies, open regulatory questions and decisions required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
