About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Drupal Technical Lead to join our client's web development team on a one-year fixed-term contract, with the potential for permanent employment. This role is remote, with occasional travel to Birmingham, London, Cardiff, or Swansea. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical architecture and development of enterprise-level Drupal-based web platforms. You will lead complex projects, ensuring the delivery of secure, scalable, and high-performance digital solutions that meet the organization's strategic objectives.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for a technically proficient Drupal developer who enjoys solving complex problems, leading technical initiatives, and mentoring junior team members. You will work closely with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to translate business needs into robust technical solutions, maintaining high standards of security, accessibility, and performance. The role also involves overseeing code reviews, promoting best practices, and supporting continuous improvement within the development team.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Drupal development, particularly with enterprise-level platforms. A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience, is required. Relevant certifications in Drupal or web technologies are advantageous. You should possess a solid understanding of modern development pipelines, DevOps practices, and cloud hosting platforms such as AWS or Azure. Excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and stakeholder management experience are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and ongoing maintenance of enterprise-level Drupal applications, ensuring they are secure, scalable, and high-performing.
  • Design and develop complex backend systems using PHP and Drupal 10+ technologies.
  • Create modern front-end solutions utilizing TypeScript, Twig, and Tailwind CSS to enhance user experience.
  • Ensure all applications adhere to security best practices, accessibility standards, and performance optimization guidelines.
  • Provide technical leadership by mentoring junior developers, conducting code reviews, and promoting development best practices across the team.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into comprehensive technical specifications.
  • Manage source control and deployment processes using Git, GitHub, GitHub Actions, and Jenkins to facilitate continuous integration and delivery.
  • Utilize Composer, Drush, and DDEV for dependency management and environment setup, ensuring efficient development workflows.
  • Support SEO strategies and web accessibility standards to optimize digital presence and user engagement.
  • Produce clear, detailed technical documentation to support ongoing maintenance and knowledge sharing.
  • Participate actively in an Agile development environment, contributing to sprint planning, retrospectives, and process improvements.
