About The Role

Virginia’s Community Colleges is seeking a talented Web Developer to join its Creative Services team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and maintenance of accessible, user-centered websites and digital tools that serve the campus community at Midlothian. The Web Developer will work in a hybrid environment, combining remote work with on-site collaboration, to deliver innovative digital solutions that enhance user experience and operational efficiency. The successful candidate will partner with IT professionals, faculty, and staff to create responsive websites, develop data-driven dashboards, and integrate APIs and AI tools to streamline workflows and improve digital engagement across the college network.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess proven experience in web development, demonstrating a strong command of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Familiarity with MySQL or similar database management systems is essential for managing dynamic content and data integration. Candidates should have a solid understanding of responsive design principles, accessibility standards, and cross-browser compatibility. Experience working with APIs and integrating third-party tools, including AI applications, will be highly valued. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or a related field is preferred, along with excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

Responsibilities

The Web Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining engaging websites and digital platforms tailored to the needs of the college community. Key duties include:

  • Creating responsive and accessible web interfaces
  • Implementing new features
  • Optimizing website performance
  • Collaborating with IT teams, faculty, and staff to gather requirements, develop technical specifications, and deliver solutions aligned with institutional goals
  • Managing database integrations
  • Developing and maintaining data dashboards
  • Incorporating APIs and AI tools to automate workflows and enhance user engagement
  • Maintaining security standards
  • Troubleshooting technical issues
  • Ensuring compliance with accessibility and privacy regulations
