About The Role
We are currently seeking a skilled Web Developer to join Alex James Digital and take a leading role in bringing our web development capabilities in-house. This is a unique opportunity for a developer who is eager to take ownership of a substantial portfolio of existing websites, while also playing a pivotal role in shaping how we build and maintain digital assets moving forward. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in web development, with extensive experience working with WordPress, and a genuine passion for creating websites that are visually stunning, highly functional, and built to the highest standards. You will collaborate closely with our creative, marketing, and client teams to design, develop, and optimize websites that meet both aesthetic and technical excellence. This role offers the chance to set development standards, introduce new technologies, and influence the future of our web development practices.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a web developer with a focus on managing and developing WordPress websites.
- Strong understanding of modern web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
- Experience with building custom themes, plugins, and integrations within WordPress.
- Familiarity with APIs and third-party platforms such as CRM, marketing tools, and analytics.
- Knowledge of version control systems, staging environments, testing, deployment, and backups.
- Ability to translate creative concepts into responsive, engaging digital experiences.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks efficiently.
- A proactive attitude with a desire to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.

Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the development, maintenance, and technical health of approximately 20–30 existing WordPress websites.
- Design, develop, and launch new websites for both the company and clients, ensuring high standards of quality and performance.
- Work extensively with WordPress, recommending and utilizing other technologies where appropriate to optimize results.
- Translate creative designs and concepts into fully responsive, polished websites that deliver exceptional user experiences.
- Improve website performance, accessibility, security, and maintainability across the portfolio.
- Manage updates for WordPress core, plugins, and dependencies, ensuring sites remain secure and reliable.
- Develop custom functionalities, themes, components, and integrations to meet project requirements.
- Collaborate with APIs and third-party platforms, including CRM, marketing, and analytics systems, to enhance website capabilities.
- Establish and promote development standards, reusable components, and efficient processes for future projects.
- Enhance deployment workflows, version control practices, backups, and disaster recovery plans.
- Work closely with designers and creative teams to ensure final outputs align with original visions and creative ambitions.
- Advise colleagues and clients on technical possibilities, limitations, and innovative solutions.
- Focus on detail-oriented tasks such as page speed optimization, responsive behavior, and interactive elements to ensure a seamless user experience.
