Help keep LUCA’s website secure, reliable and easy to use
Manage our WordPress systems, support web editors and improve the digital experience for university athletes, clubs and volunteers across London and the South East.
What difference will you make?
LUCA’s website is a central source of information for university athletes, member clubs, volunteers and partners. It provides access to competition details, results, governance information and opportunities to become involved in university athletics.
The Webmaster will help ensure that this information remains available through a secure, reliable and well-maintained website. By preventing technical problems, managing updates and responding quickly when issues occur, the volunteer will reduce disruption and help LUCA deliver its activities professionally.
The role will also improve the experience of the volunteers who manage LUCA’s competitions and communications. Clear permissions, reliable publishing systems and practical technical support will make it easier for web editors to share accurate and timely information without needing advanced technical knowledge.
Improving the website’s usability, accessibility and mobile performance will make LUCA’s information easier to access for a wider range of users. This is particularly important for students looking for event information, clubs sharing opportunities with their members and athletes checking results.
Strong website security and access management will also help LUCA protect its systems, data and users. Appropriate backups, documentation and security practices will make the organisation more resilient and reduce its reliance on individual volunteers or informal knowledge.
Over time, the Webmaster will help LUCA develop a stronger and more sustainable digital infrastructure. Their work will support participation, improve communication with member clubs and contribute to a positive and professional experience of university athletics across London and the South East.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
You should be comfortable working methodically, checking details and identifying potential problems before they significantly affect users. As the website supports competitions and other time-sensitive activities, the ability to manage deadlines and respond appropriately to technical issues is particularly important.
The most important qualities are
- Confidence using WordPress and managing website content.
- Strong attention to detail.
- A reliable and methodical approach to completing tasks.
- Good organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Clear written communication.
- The ability to explain technical matters to people with different levels of digital experience.
- Good judgement when managing access, security and sensitive information.
- A collaborative and supportive approach to working with other volunteers.
Experience maintaining a website, managing WordPress plugins or administering user accounts would be particularly valuable. Familiarity with website hosting, domains, backups, security certificates or performance monitoring would also be helpful.
Some understanding of website security, data protection, cookie compliance or digital accessibility would be beneficial, although you do not need to be an expert in every area. We would welcome someone who is willing to research issues, follow good practice and seek specialist support when necessary.
Experience working with Google Drive, shared accounts or other collaborative digital systems would be useful. An ability to format tables or work with competition results data would also be an advantage.
You do not need to be a software developer or have advanced coding skills. The role would suit someone with practical WordPress experience who is interested in website administration, digital systems, technical operations or user experience.
Knowledge of university sport, athletics or volunteer-led organisations would be welcome but is not essential.
